Subject:Hiss in 8 bit mono files

Hi folks,

I have recorded about 900 audio files for a cbt title. I
just finished converting then from 16 bit mono to 8 bit
mono using one of the SF 4.5 tools. The voice sounds good,
but there is a hiss in the file that I can not get rid of.
I have tried using each of the equalizing filters with
little success. Any ideas?
