I'm working on restoring vinyl and putting it on cd. Usually I run a click removal then capture a noises print and run a noise reduction set at 20db (I've found the default of 35db is way to high and leave too much remnants). Now I'm working on an album thats all spoken word. When I try to run my normal noise reduction, the remnants are overwhelming. I'm wondering what settings I should change. I've got everything set at default except the db amount. I don't know anything about attack & release speeds or Mode 0,1,2,3. I'm using Noise Reduction V2.0. thanks, -ck |

Hi Chad - I use this plug-in a lot and find that Mode 2 is the most reliable mode in terms of artifacts. Mode 0 is based on the old NR plug-in (1.0) and, in my opinion, is useless compared to the new algorithms. So, that said, you still have to use your ears - get a good noise sample (important) and be careful to listen for the sibilant esses in speech as that is where you will hear most of your artifacts. Try doing less NR the first time, then get a new noise sample and do it again - a couple of smaller passes. This sometimes helps with the remnants. Good luck! chad kempfert wrote: >>I'm working on restoring vinyl and putting it on cd. >>Usually I run a click removal then capture a noises print >>and run a noise reduction set at 20db (I've found the >>default of 35db is way to high and leave too much remnants). >> >>Now I'm working on an album thats all spoken word. One thing I found that solved this problem is the global trim for the noise print envelopes. I usually bring all the points up a couple of clicks and find that the remnants drop off dramatically. This practice is based on NR version 1 so I don't know if this applies to NR version 2. >>chad kempfert wrote: >>>>I'm working on restoring vinyl and putting it on cd. >>>>Usually I run a click removal then capture a noises print >>>>and run a noise reduction set at 20db (I've found the >>>>default of 35db is way to high and leave too much remnants). >>>> >>>>Now I'm working on an album thats all spoken word.
