Creating ACID loops from existing vocal track -Sound Forge - PC

The original file is about 3 min long. My aim is to pull it appart into small vocal loops for some techno tracks I am playing with. The procedure I have adopted is: 1. I am selecting sections of this, 2.hitting copy, 3. then pasting the section as a new sound file. However, the tempo, number of beats, etc, gets all screwed up. I find myself 4. attempting (hopelessly) to manually adjust each new audio file then saving. Any ideas how to make this process easier - also, any help on how best to set tempo and beats to suit ACID would be welcome. Cheers, EWS
