Subject:Audio pops in Sound Forge.....

I have recently purchased a Fujitsu laptop.
It is a 300mhz celeron with 128 megs of ram and an ESS
sound card that suppports simultaneous record and playback.
For some reason, when I goto record using SF 4.5, it gives
audible and visual POPS in the recording. When I have it
open, and I'm just in ready to record mode with "monitor"
checked....I can see where every now and then the meters
will jump up to clip level. I have all the recording inputs
muted, and when I hit record, the meters start jumping like
crazy and when I press stop...I see the the area I recorded
and it is riddled with sinlge spaced out lines (where the
popping had occured). It only does this within SF 4.5. It
doesnt do it when I am using Windows Sound Recorder nor Saw
Pro or Cakewalk 9. I'm not really sure what the problem is
but if anyone has an idea, I'd really appreciate the help.
Thanks.
