Hello- I just moved over from Audacity to Source Forge 9 and I wanted to confirm I am using the right Audacity function. In certain instances, I would use a Fast Lookahead Limiter (from the Audacity VST pack) to compress peaks in given audio sample. This would allow me to compress down just the top 0 to -3.0db of a track - without affecting or compressing any audio below -3.0db. My understandng is that a Fast Lookahead Limiter compresses audio and a brick or hard limiter cuts off the audio - that is why I used the Fast Lookahead Limiter. Now this plugin is for Audacity only and I believe I found a way to accomplish the same function in Sound Forge using the Wave Hammer (see below). Wave Hammer Settings -------------------------------- * Compressor Tab - Bypass Compressor is enabled * volume Maximizer Tab - Set both Threshold and Output level to the same "max" level (e.g, 3.0db) * Result - Audio that was in the 0 to -3.0db range is now removed and the audio below -3.0db was not altered *** Questions *** 1) Was the audio in the 0 to -3.0db range simply compressed down or removed (e.g., brickwall limiter) 2) If it was removed, how can I accomplish my goal? 3) Should I take a look at the iZotope plugins for this? Thanks! |

To use the volume maximiser: - Set max audio to about -0.3 dB (just to make sure it never clips) - Reduce threshold until you get your desired level of output without pumping. -3 dB is a good starting point. |
