Subject:multi tracking

I'm using Sound Forge XP.
I want to be able to "MULTI TRACK", treating the left and
right channels as different tracks. How do I do that?
I have an audio recording in the left channel of SF file
and want to hear that "take" while recording a harmony track
into the right channel. How do I do that? (When I try to
record to a specific channel, I don't hear the previously
recorded sound and my new sound is inserted at the beginning
of the first recorded sound on the new track).
Also, can anyone recommend a straightforward "manual" for
SoundForge that will give step-by-step directions for
different standard procedures? The HELP menu is not always
that helpful.

Tim,

You're trying to make Sound Forge do something it is not designed to
(and cannot) do. You need to check out Sonic Foundry's "Vegas Pro"
for multitracking capabilities that will knock your socks off. There
is a comprehensive manual in .pdf format on your Sound Forge CD. But
don't give up on the help files...most people find that by poking
through the help files, they rarely even need to refer to the
manual.
