Subject:Automatic Level Control Posted by: dstren Date:11/23/1999 1:22:00 PM I am using Premiere 5.1a and DVRex M-1. I am looking for a way to make all of my audio clips the same level. All clips are recorded at slightly different levels. I want to be able to use a compressor, limiter or some type of ALC to make everything at 0db. Does anybody know of any type of software that will accomplish this? I have tried the compressor in Premiere and it does not seem to do what I am trying to accomplish. I can go to the local music store and buy a $300.00 compressor and put it between the computer output and my record deck input. But, I would rather use software.. Will Sound Forge do the trick? Which version do I need?

Sound Forge is the perfect tool. Here is a piece of what the Sound Forge help files say about Normalization: "Use this command to maximize the volume of a selection without clipping. The Normalize function scans the audio and applies a gain to raise its level to a specified (often very high) value." It's basically a "click of the mouse" operation on your file. To make your life even easier, you can use Sound Forge 4.5's "Batch Converter" functionality to normalize all of your sound files at one time. By the way, Sound Forge has a great built-in compressor/limiter, too. Yes...Sound Forge 4.5 can do the job. Sound Forge XP 4.5 also offers normalization, but no batch conversion. Don,

While compresion might help the sound of your files, it seems that
what you really want to do is to "Normalize" them. Sound Forge is the
