I am trying to time compress a file by a number of milliseconds, but SoundForge seems to only allow changes of 100ms or more. Even when I change the units to samples, no compression happens unless the length of the file is changed by more than 0.02%. How do I make very very tiny time compress changes? - Joe |

Joe, There is a certain amount of "slack" in the output size of the time- compressor in Sound Forge. The amount of slack depends on the Time Compression Mode being used, and can vary from a couple of mS to around 100 mS. The easiest ways to decrease the size of a file exactly by several milliseconds are: 1) if possible, make a very small cut somewhere, trying to match zero crossings. 2) Use the Pitch Shift function(without preserving duration). A ratio is displayed at the bottom...and depending on the length of the file, the pitch shift necessary should be only a few cents.
