I don't know any disadvantages.
Both should be able to co-exist without any problems
Some older plug ins will work better with Version 4.0
But there are a lot of newer ones, especially VST plug ins, that work with 7.0

One plus of installing the new version, then removing the old version is that your presets, if any, get transferred to the new installation.

I have never had a problem installing the new, then removing the old. Seems to work well.

Thanks all,

I just installed 7.0 + DVD 4 and left 4.0 and DVD architech 1.0 on there. Seemed fine plus it pulled some legacy plugins into 7.0

Thanks for the replies

One thing I forgot to mention
If you drag a 4.0 veg into 7.0 and save it, it will never open in 4.0 again.
7.0 vegs can't be opened in 4.0
If it's important to you to keep them separate, you may want to create separate files for both, because all the 4.0 vegs will soon take the appearance of 7.0 vegs
