I have a new computer running Vista and I have been hesitant to try and install Sound Forge 7 on it. Has anyone here installed Sound Forge 7 on a Vista Machine? Does it work?

On one system with Vista Ultimate, Sound Forge 8 works fine (which was our testing system). On another Vista Ultimate system (production system) practically all of the Effects menu options don't do anything when clicked (only the last and first options do anything and that is telling you to buy/upgrade to Sound Forge 9). (Personally this experience isn't really a good one, (with Microsoft or Sony) for me, and I'm going to have our whole department upgrade to XP (I mean downgrade, unless someone can tell me what could be wrong).

Just try it... let us know how it fares. :)

V7. I not going to install mine to find out. It's potentially ok - doubly so if you install it under "compatability mode" - I'm finding virtually all all programs are working well in Vista, even if they were only made for XP - it's backwards compatability is pretty good.

V8. (on the machine that's not fully working). Could be worth a look into .net v2 for Vista - it might allow your SF8 to play nicer. Can't be much more help than that since my v8 worked fine, and v9 works peachy in both 32 and 64 OS.
Another thought - although J or someone would be better equiped to answer this - would be to install directx9 on Vista too - or at least run the update. That might help the effects aspect - (I'm not sure they're DX based, but again, it really won't hurt to install/update anyway - Yes I konw VIsta is DX10, but it's also DX9...)

Hope that helps

Kenny,

Wow! You sure seem to have quite a handle on things around here! Thank you for all your help and support (a lot better then most of the replies I've been getting on things like this). :)

I'm assuming you are saying I should install .NET v2.0 (found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en ). I'm sorry... still learning what the .NET Framework and all that even is...

And I'm assuming the same thing for DirectX 9? (found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en )

I'm sorry. I'm not familiar with either enough to know if I need to uninstall the newer versions (and even what current version I have or if I even have them)...?

Thanks again for all your help!!!

You can probably fix the plug-in issue by disabling DEP as described in this thread prior to installing.

I'm rather dumb! So it never occurred to me about this thing called "open in compatibility mode for XP"!

For those of you that don't know how to do this, right click on the Sound Forge program shortcut on your desktop (or wherever you open it up at) select Properties, Compatibility tab, select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)"

Effects menu works like a charm! :D

Thanks everyone for putting up with my rants! :D
