Subject:Acid music studio 7.0 doesn't work

I recently purchased Sony Acid Music studio 7.0 after using several older versions of Acid products. When I installed it on my machine the program started up, but would not load any projects or loops, it gave me an unknown error message. I tried contacting Sony tech support and found my options to be either free email support or to pay 14.95 for 1 support solution via email, seems they don't support the less expensive programs via phone at all. I tried using the free email support option, and in 10 days have received only 2 responses from them. The first one after two days was asking if I was still having an issue and the second time I heard from them after 4 days was to try re-installing the program, which didn't work. So I am stuck. I can't get my money back because I opened the software and I can't get any help fixing the problem because they don't not respond to tech support queries. So I am out 70.00 bucks!! Way to go Sony!!

If you had several older versions and they were from the Sonic Foundry days it is possible that those are causing a conflict. You might try completely uninstalling all of the old versions which includes deleting any common folders for Sony/Sonic Foundry products (of course if you have other Sony/Sonic Foundry products you should uninstall those before deleting any folders). I would also delete any remaining Sony/Sonic Foundry registry entries too. Then try a re-install.

I had a problem once where wave files were not recognized. It was around the time I had both Sonic Foundry and Sony versions. A complete uninstall / folder cleanup / registry of all Sony/Sonic Foundry products and then just re-installing the Sony versions cleared it up for me. Not sure if it will work for you depending on how old your older versions are.

Please fill out your system specs in your user profile.

What audio hardware are you using?
Do you use VST FX or VST Instruments? If so, which ones do you have installed?

Heard something from Sony today, they recommended like you all did that I edit my registry to remove the old programs from there, which I did, I also did another clean install. The following is what my respose to Sony was which I will paste here to save time:

Okay I deleted the registry entries like you said in the last solution. I also did a complete uninstall re install per the direction from before. As always the program loads and then when I try to load a project it gives me the unknown error screen. However this time, if I double click a loop it places it up in the track area, as it should, it was NOT doing this before, and allows me to paint in the track and play the track, it will allow me to do this for several tracks and I was even able to save it and exit the program and reload that file. But if I just click on the track which should allow me to preview it, I get the following error (see comments after the error info)

This seems to be the same error I was getting before. Plus when it tries to load a project, one from the CD that came with the program it gets to 2% and I get an error says there was a unknown problem loading the file and the program crashes.

At this point I do not believe there is a problem with my install, I think it has something to do with the explorer part of the program. So what next.

You have to make your specs visible.

Can you answer the questions I asked?

Peter,

I am using a Tascam US-122 external sound card

I do not have any soft synths or vst effects installed, that I am aware of.

Thanks,

Don

Well here I am over 2 weeks later and I still have a non working program. Sony Tech Support is useless and unresponsive. I will never buy another Sony product again!! I have been completely and totally ripped off.

Ripped off by Sony, here's a link for a customer satisfaction survey for their tech support group, let them know what you think!!

I have had exactly same prob with them , and i own 3 Top dollar progs!!

I have been unable to use 2 of those 3 , for 6 months .

After months of phone calls, they say they are working on the BUG, but to check back - so , i got no real solution.

To give them respect, the Support guy that helped me was very sweet and did his best - my feeling is they are understaffed and on lean budget - so i feel for them.

I would like a better DAW, but i like Sony's stuff, and i have spent 600.00 plus on it.....what to do ?

Really , i just want a quality, RELIABLE (minimal bugs - max support) DAW and 2 Track editor.

I wont blame them, perhaps it is me - but these are my meager observations.

Do you know what driver model you are set up to use?

Mapper?
Wave Classic?
ASIO?

Does it make a difference in relation to your problem?

What version of the drivers for the US-122 are you using? The latest they have posted are v 3.40.

What other system software do you have on your computer? I was using FarStone Restore-IT and it wreaked havoc with the Sony programs. I couldn't get them to install correctly. It turns out that Restore-IT was trying to keep track of every change the installer made (to undo it later) and it couldn't keep up. I removed Restore-IT and my Sony apps started working again. A lite version of Restore-IT is provided free with a lot of Intel motherboards so if you just install all the extra programs you will get it.

The fact that a complete re-install got you further suggests that something like this may be affecting your ability to install correctly. Perhaps your anti-virus/anti-spyware software or something? While I don't have ACID Music Studio 7, I have a LOT of other Sony software on my PC including ACID Music Studio 6 and it all works great. Keeping your applications to a minimum and not allowing a lot of unneeded system software is the key to running Windows apps cleanly.

I'm going through a similar problem right now with a program called PhotoZoom. The copy protection locks up my computer when I try to use it. I can use it on my laptop and my kids computer just fine but on my desktop it simply doesn't work. Go figure! MS Windows is a very strange beast. Good Luck on your problem.
