Subject:Fastest processing of files

I currently use 4.0 and shortly upgrading to 4.5
I am upgrading hardware and need to know where the most
speed improvements will be realised. Currently the machine
is Pentium 200/128Mhz/9Gb IDE drive.
I will go to 500-600 Pentium III and LVD UW SCSI drive to
give faster throughput - if I really up the memory, will
this substantially improve file operations? Say up to 512Mb
or more DIMM. Does S.F use real memory first then goes to
virtual (hard drive) for excess needs?
You see, when I edit a full CD of around 700Mb and say
normalise the whole file, I can go away for a long, long
time before the operation completes - I want to
substantially increase this speed.
Helpful/useful comments are most appreciated.

Hi Russell,

Have you made any progress regarding this topic?

I am a SF4.5c user, and based on the documentation I understand that
SF works directly on the hard disk, and therefore will not be
benefiting from the PC's memory. So to improve the performance I
believe you would need a faster HD, faster mother board (bus), and a
faster CPU - depending on the functions you're using.

The other thought was to use a dual processor PC and then split up
the task (5 tracks per task let say for a CD). However I'm not sure
if one can start 2 instances of SF on the same PC.

If you have other information, and erperience I would appreciate your
sharing it with us.

Cheers.

Lee.
