M-Audio ProjectMix Automation in Acid -ACID Product Family

Hey all, I'm testing out Acid Pro 6.0 and would like to know if it's possible to use my M-Audio ProjectMix to write and read automation. At the moment I can control the volume using the faders when automation if off, but if I turn automation on, the faders become useless and I have to use my mouse to automate the volume. This kinda defeats the purpose of having faders, as I'd like to be able to automate fades hands on. Any help is appreciated.
