Twittering sound using Noise Reduction Plugin -Sound Forge - PC

Subject:Twittering sound using Noise Reduction Plugin Posted by: dneiger Date:7/31/1999 3:40:00 AM I have recently purchased the noise reduction plugin (upgraded to 1.0b) which I am using with Sound Forge 4.5b. I am using it to remove background noise from tapes and old records. So far so good except that when I play back the processed sound I hear a high frequency twittering (not unlike sparrows!). My settings are Reduce noise 35db Attack speed 90 Release speed 50 No high shelf boost FFT 1024 Overlap 67 Noiseprint fit 512 I reviewed the earlier version (non-direct-X) for PC Authority Magazine and it worked that well that I purchased the latest version. I'm obviously not aware of the audio content, however, if the noise has a wide span of dynamic range, these settings would certainly get rid of the noise, but leave behind artifacts that would match your description of sound. If the content is fairly 'solo' or quiet in nature, then this would definitely be the case, the same with content of a very high dynamic range. If you'd like to contact me directly, I'd be happy to try to work through whatever you are trying to accomplish. Some content simply can't be completely cleaned, no way, no how. Not even with CEDAR systems or other super high end systems. The N/R plug in is about as good as anyone's system is. It certainly makes ProTools/NoNoise plug in look silly.
