Subject:Preferences not being saved

When I change items on the 'Wave' tab of the Preferences, my changes are lost the next time I run
Sound Forge. For example, my record and playback devices return to 'Microsoft Sound Mapper'.

Any ideas?

Must not be a very popular topic, yet, 2 years later, I have the exact problem.

Sound forge xp 5.0e installed clean and registered (tried on 2 different systems), does *not* save preferences for me under win2k sp2.

Here's what it does in a 'testing' scenario:

1) I delete the *.ini files in the soundforge dir so I can see if a .ini file is even created by the app.
2) run sf
3) change some prefs, like changing the cd device.
4) exit sf.
5) look at application directory to find that forgexp.ini *has* been created, but that it contains zero bytes.

6) repeat.. etc.. nothing changes on forgexp.ini aside from the modification date, but no data is ever stored there.

Has anyone here ever had this problem? Do tech staff ever read this forum? I've logged two calls on this and been given the sort of advice one might give to a baby ("reinstall it", "it's windows", "maybe it's that other app.."). I'd appreciate any help,

tia,

Mick

Hey, Mick.
Nice post. I had no idea SF was NOT in fact saving the 32 bit floating temp file option I had selected. If it hadn't been for your post, I would have still assumed it remained selected; it clearly had NOT remained selected; it was blank. I have 5.0e and the situation with the ini files is exactly the same on my computer. So is my experience with the responsiveness, or lack thereof, from SF tech support. Two emails - 3 weeks average response time from them on both. Regarding responses to posts here - forget it. (Well, since they don't care for my criticisms of the bugs in their products, and/or how they present what their product can do, etc., they have advised me to not expect much by way of responses here on the forum. So don't necessarily generalize out from my own experience here.)

I don't even know what to tell ya; there are some aspects of SF that are great. And others, including their tech support response, that suck. All I can say is keep trying to get some kind of answer for this, and also keep checking out other programs if you have the opportunity. If you're interested, you can email me at skay2@mindspring.com for any follow ups.
