Subject:Raising voice level without also amplifying noise

We're producing a dramatic short "film", that was shot with a digital camcorder (Canon XL-1), and edited with Digital Origin's EditDV program. In several sections, one of the actors' voice was too low, and raising the audio gain from within EditDV has not brought his voice up loud enough. Is this something that can be "processed" more effectively using Sound Forge, while at the same time filtering the ambient noise? Or will we have to re-record? Thanks in advance. Adam... |

Although some boost in the noise floor is unavoidable, I found SF to do a very, very nice job using the Normalize function. Used it for the same thing several times. Enjoy.
