Subject:SF 9d - plugin chainer bug persists

I'm still experiencing problems using the plugin chainer in 9d, although it specifically states in the release notes that this issue has been fixed.

When previewing the chainer and moving the cursor around in the file while playback continues, there's stuttering and gapping, with sometimes the FX chain briefly bypassing (though of course I'm not bypassing it). I don't have 'Seek Cursor on Playback' enabled.

This problem seems to exhibit itself with a range a plugins, so I don't think it's down to a particular one.

J - is there any chance this could please be looked at and possibly fixed for the upcoming 9e?

Thanks

Ben

I don't get this problem. What is one specific plug that does this for you, what type of file, and what sort of driver (and settings and interface) are you using ?

It happens with any plugin as I said - I just tried it with some stock Sony plugins and I have exactly the same problem. For example, even just using the Track EQ.

File type makes no difference; I wouldn't expect it to.

My system specs are in my profile, but I'm running an Echo Mia Midi, driver version 7.3.5.0.

Will take another look. No promises, though.

So will this make it into 9f, J? Or did you mean no promises it will be fixed at all?!

Thanks

What mouse have you got - because I've seen issues with people on many apps caused by their mouse + driver..

Another couple of thoughts occurred to me about this.

What are your audio buffer settings? Are you running with ASIO or Wave Drivers? Also have you tried updating your video card drivers? Have you tried contacting our support to work with you on this?

Sony Dave P - many apologies for the huge delay in replying! I've been caught up with things.

This problem still persists for me, and across a few machines now so I'm pretty sure it's not anything I'm doing or down to any particular components. To answer your question though, I'm running ASIO at 512 samples, though the problem is still there at 1024 samples or 256... or any settings I've tried. It's still there using the Classic Wave drivers too. Video drivers are up to date.

To give you detailed steps to reproduce this, create a chain of plugins in the chainer and hit play through the chainer. It helps if you've got a longish file loaded of continuous audio. Ensure that Seek Cursor On Playback is off. As the file's playing repeatedly and rapidly move the cursor to all different positions in the file using the mouse (this is something I often do when editing to find particular points, etc). It doesn't happen on every mouse click, but after a time you'll start to hear the playing audio drop out a little and/or bypass the plugin(s) in the chainer.

As I say, I'm getting this behavior whatever system I use with SF 9d and unfortunately it severely impacts upon my workflow. If it could be looked into for the next update/release, that'd be great.

Thanks

Ben

No problems here. I also deal with large files and the Echo Mia, which I run in "Classic Wave", with the card to "Pure Wave" mode. Make sure any other soundcard is disabled. Not to mention the usual shutdown all Antivirus, scrensavers, ect, ect., ect..other app,s and utilities: Especially Norton's Antivirus software. (which is known to cause problems with many A/V apps.)

Hi rraud

It was nothing of those things... I run a fairly tight ship on my audio installations! I'll tell you what though, somehow 9e had passed me by - as the title suggests I'd been running 9d. Installing 9e has cured the problem even though it's not mentioned on the release notes.

So thanks all for your replies, and I'm pleased to that this issue has a happy ending!

Cheers

Ben
