I have just recently started to work with Acid 6.0d with alot of loops/tracks...and contest material I've been having alot of crashing going on... I have noted Today that when using the reverb that I believe came with Acid 6.0...causes the software to become unstable. And a window to appear asking if I want to send a error report to Microsoft?....well this has been done sevral times for the past three weeks...on and off... I have troubleshooted the system...I found that my XG synth also might be causing some problems...with my DAWs I have turned off all other programs running in the background to the best of my ability...but the security software I'm using can't be turned off...it can only be set to not scan, and allow all traffic. Not sure if that has caused any problems. Today I started fresh...and I reset Acid's prefences to not use the Xg syth in the preferance options for midi play back...But use the M-audio midi... I then saved the settings...and closed down, and opened up with the new settings from the acd I made. Then I started my project... Everything went alright for hours... But when I put on the reverb...the program crashed. And I retried...and it crashed again... I was using that reverb in other projects before this one....Maybe that is why Acid has been crashing all along? I use this Reverb in almost every project I made with Acid 6.0...and almost every project I had made crashed at least once... I was forming the old school habit of save save save...because Acid was crashing so much I couldn't get work done with out saving ever minute or so... Maybe it has nothing to do with my XG synth at all...which always seems to be being used by another program and cannot be opened/used.....There is no other program running that could be using this synth..and yet I get these kind of messages from another DAW called Samplitude 9...and Band In a Box 2008...Pro tools M Powered.. So something isn't working somewhere...and I can't figure out what is using the XG wdm driver. I feel I can reproduce the crashes pritty much on demand, by loading that reverb onto a few fracks...and just letting it sit for a few minutes..maybe half an hour...with out even playing the tracks...and that window will eventually pop up saying a error has occured and the software has to shut down...send and error report...I click yes...and everything closes down...to the desktop.... Any Help? Sir Les |

I think I solved some of my woes. Here is what I have found...Nero 8 ultra installs some apps for music...called show time. This app wants to be the default player of all my music, midi, and video content ...even though it was setup to not associate with Wav, Aiff, Midi,Mp3,WMA, because I use Acid pro and other software that uses these file types...I didn't what show time to open up in the middle of loading a loop or previewing then loading a wav file...etc. It seems that this app also took hold of my WDM driver for the xg Synth..and made changes to my default player for WMA files that stream from the web....Thus I wasn't able to play back WMA in windows media player when on Acid Planet. After uninstalling this applet weeks ago...I found broken links to keys in the registry still for Nero show time. I then went to Neros web page and found a removal tool... That didn't get rid of All the keys...So I used a reg cleaner...and what do you know...Everything is working again. I'll see if the reverb is the culpret over the next few days...and post my results...My appologies for jumping the gun.... Might of been that WDM Driver causing some of the problems... I'm now going to do a complete system check to make sure everything is working properly..disk scans, defrag, and more testing.. Thanks. Sir Les |

Which Reverb is causing you problems? How are you using it? On track or a bus? Peter |

The Sonitus reverb (from Sonar) is not compatible with AcidPro. |

Correct. The Sonitus Reverb from Sonar is not compatible. Cakewalk knows this. I told them. They know the cause. They promised a fix. They have not corrected the problem the last time I looked. From you description of your problem, it sounds like you have run into this problem. There is no workaround that we can do on our side with out breaking every ACID project file. Also the fix would be a work around for this and only this plug-in. Peter Message last edited on2/8/2008 6:12:23 PM bypwppch. |

It was the sony reverb that came with Acid pro 6.0...used on track and master bus...final mix down. But I now feel after more testing / after a registry cleaning...and defrag that that assumption is not correct....It was the WDM driver for the XG synth which uses the cpu Now set to 40% from 80%..and the nero "show time" software that didn't get uninstalled correctly or fully...holding onto the WDM driver....and changing my setup prefeneces in windows XP.....and causing instability with all my DAWs...because I use this WDM Driver for midi play back....better than Rolands MS GM Softsynth. But anyway...the registry had broken links in it form show time and I would imagine all the automatic updates windows preforms/installs....reg cleaner did the trick I think....also did a scandisk, and defrag. Everything is good so far...got 75 tracks open.....and I have that reverb on about 5 tracks...everything seems to be O.K now.....hasn't crashed once since I did the regcleaner thing. Man I was saving like a mad man.... So I think i solved the problem...thanks for the tips of the cakewalk plugs... The WDM driver is old and wasn't coded for dual core cpu's 80% is over kill.....40% is over kill too! But that is as low as it goes. And now that what ever link that was attached to the WDM driver is gone...the WDM XG synth now works in all My DAWs... Who would of thunk it... Today I had some more time to play with the software...ACID PRO 6.0d build 363. I loaded a Mp3 track up, and let say about 20 loops...I did some volume control Automation on three tracks, and some cut up and pitch changed loops...on one track i let it run (Play) in loop mode....I went away for a coffee..and when I came back that error messenger was up...Now as long As I don't click the send error report button...the tune continues to loop and play...I was able to save a acd...the first time. and then...I sent the report... I then tried the same acd I just saved and opened acid...Set up the loop/play and let it go...with in 15 minutes the error report was up again...No Plug ins...just some volume changes and pitch changes... Nothing a dual core cpu couldn't handle...this tim,e when I tried to save a acd file the window froze...the only thing after that that was availible to click on was the error report button... I believe that a auto save rendered version is made? One more thing...about that error reporter...when one goes into the details to view the report...why can't this be made so one can copy it and paste it in a note pad? Might help us here on the forums get our systems working right? Just a thought...cause there is no way I could write all that stuff down...way to many 00000000000000 and what not.... Anyway Looks like my problem presists...and it has nothing to do with the Plugins that I know of... I'm going to have to uninstall it , and reinstall by the looks of things. See if that solves it..... Sir Les |

Yah,.. that uninstall seems to have done something benefical... I let the demo song run for a long time...no crashes. I opened my ACD and let that Go...no Crashes so far! One problem did arise when uninstalling Acid pro 6.0...it left some things installed..sony media manager 2.0d, 2.1, 2.2. and when I tried to uninstall them they wouldn't uninstall...and error messages came up. So I Left them installed...and reinstalled acid pro 6.0 and the update to 6.0d. Seems to work now. Thanks People! Sir Les |

Well it seems it worked for a few runs for a long period of time...but now it is back to the crashing ...and I'm not happy about it...This time I have noted one doesn't have to do anything at all, except load loops. I loaded up about 75 loops and one Mp3 for a contest...went for a cup of coffee and a smoke...when I returned the program had crashed...the error reporter was up...Now this is very odd... Oh well...I can't fiqure it out... I believe something is causing a fault...but what? I got this tip fron a magazine : Scan system files for corruption ...select run, type in sfc/scannow...this runs xp's file system checker...says to kee[ the xp cd handy... What about all those updates from microsoft?...would doing this scan and fix make those updates get over wrtten? Just a thought Sir Les |

I'm also pulling out my hair trying to problem solve crashes and audio playback problems in Acid 6d. I intend to keep tweaking my system to try to figure these issues out. Some of the problems seem to get better, then the following day or week, the same crashing, crackling, hesitations, scrolling issues, crash etc. Sometimes I've even seen Acid go down when doing nothing but listening to the playback. This is well documented in this forum. I don't know if I can continue using this app??? A big thank you goes out to all of the folks who have tried to help with this problem. Cheye |

Yes I know its a bad note in Sonys pocket....But I believe part of the problem is with windows XP and updates...including Google search bar on desktop...Itunes,QQtime And other redundant apps running in the backgorund! Try this out...start...run...type in "msconfig" hit ok....select the "startup" tab...and select things that are not system related...third party software first uncheck the check boxes...and click apply when done...then go to services...do the same thing...click apply... Then reboot. I have found that helps on my system...Acid seems a bit more stable....at least enough to do some real work in it... I believe the key now is to know what can and cannot be turned off at start up on WIN XP sp2 with all the updates....depending on the user and their setups... That is something only Microsoft can explain...and that info should come with the OS we have bought the rights to run on our systems... The video card accelleration turned down might help? I don't see how turning down the accelleration would....but by making something work slower might make it more unstable for quick redraws...when scrolling...no? but I did that too...Just to try everything. Be well...solutions are coming...My Acid Pro has a bit more stability now...hasn;t crashed yet...but like you said...one day it's good...the next day its unusable... So I'll keep updating my findings...right now I think I'm on the right track... Sony should be more on microsofts back...trying to find out the soltions for us.... Come On Sony...make a list of redundant apps and services we need to turn off at start up...so we can trouble shoot our systems to run your software! Think they will listen? Here is my list of things I turned off in msconfig: start up: Reader_SL (Adobe reader) NmBg monitor (Nero *) Google desktop (google) Itunes helper (Itunes) Nbkey scan (Nero 8) mssysmgr (Nero) Nero Check (Nero) QTtask (quick time) PDVD Serv (cyberlink) Sxgtkbar (Xg synth) Services: Remote access Auto connection manager. Remote access connection manager. remote desktop session manager. smark card. Task scheduler. Portable media serial number serv. Wireless zero config. Hope this might help.....God Bless...oh and that magazine fix SFC doesn't work if you updated win XP sp2...it will not accept the Win Xp cd as valid. There is no "core" system requires as such, that are universal. Certainly some windows apps for everyone, yes - but what you 'require' will be different than what I 'require'. Afterall, I need SQL to run in the background, but I doubt you do etc. |

Thanks Sir Les for the very helpful tips. I have gone in and taken a few of the services and other msconfig items off, but my machine was already running pretty lean and had most of them unchecked. The video acceleration did not change anything, but generally my system is now working pretty good and crashing has decreased for now. I know that time will tell and I will get back to this forum to update on this issue. I love Acid 6 as a music app and hope that it will stabalize to a point where I can really get things done, instead of spending my time tweaking and trying to figure out crashing and other issues. My UAD 1 plugs still crash the system when I try to remove them, and I have heard nothing on this issue on the forum yet. I would love to hear from other Acid users who have their UAD 1 plugs working successfully or not. Also, wondering how much you should defrag your system with XP service pack 2? Thanks again Sir Les and others who have helped. Great support! Cheye |
