Subject:Acid 6.0d Pro Crashes on Launch

Hi,

For some reason, Acid Pro 6.0 is crashing on launch for me. It was working fine a couple of weeks ago but now it crashes every time with the following error:

[acid60.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.]

When I click the 'more information' button, this is what I get:

Error signature:
AppName: acid60.exe AppVer: 6.0.0.363 ModName: sfdlssynth.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.1222 Offset: 00004fd0

If I remove the .dll, Acid will launch but then other problems arise because, I assume, the file was removed. I tried completely removing Acid 6.0 Pro and reinstalling, which led to me reactivating the software, but then it crashed again with the same error.

After searching on the web for any other users with the same problem, I did find at least two Unfortunately, I could not find a solution to the problem other than to contact tech support. I filed a request to tech support yesterday but no response yet. (Being the weekend, I'm not really expecting one till Monday at earliest.)

Does anybody here have suggestions? Any helpful advice is deeply appreciated.

Best,

DRG

Hi,

I think I found a solution to my problem: After running dxdiag (a DirectX diagnostics utility,) I was able to isolate a possible problem with a file called dmloader.dll. After a quick search on the internet I tracked down a copy of this .dll and I replaced the one installed in my Windows sytem32 directory with it. Next, I launched Acid 6.0d and it opened without crashing, and the program now seems to be working correctly even with compositions containing MIDI.

I'm pleased that Acid 6.0d is now working on my system, but I am wondering if this was a valid way to fix the problem. Can anybody here give me further advice or a helpful opinion on this matter?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,

Just a quick followup to my previous post: I downloaded a utility called Program Checker which is supposed to be able to validate files on your system. I had it check the old dmloader.dll and it couldn't identify it. The I had it check the copy I found on my websearch and Program Checker correctly identified it. My guess is that the originally installed copy somehow got corrupted or replaced with a bad copy.

Next, I ran dxdiag and tried the Music test. Previously with the old .dll, the test failed, but with the new .dll it passed.

I hope this information is helpful to other users who run into the same problem. If you are not familiar with dxdiag, select 'Run...' under the Start menu, enter 'dxdiag' and press Enter. A window will pop up which will help identify and test various components of DirectX.

Anyway, so far everything is still good here.

Thanks for the followup Greenlaw. There's nothing more frustrating when you're having troubles than to search a thread, find your problem, hear it's been solved, but not told how !

Troublesome dlls (usually poorly coded vstis) seem often to be the culprits.
