Subject:Burning Audio CD: Need help with error message

In the course of troubleshooting this problem I have replaced both my CD player and my DVD/CD burner without success. I have tested my DVD/CD burner and know that I can write audio files onto it. Also, I am able to play those audio files on my PC's CD/DVD player. However, when I have created a project by copying audio from an LP vinyl record, and when I have attempted to create an audio CD from the Sound Forge Project file, I get the following error message. Basically it's saying that my CD (a brand new Verbatim CD) is either dirty or corrupted. Actually, it's fresh off the stack. Here's the error message: 'SFMMCX'-(17) 'atapi'-(0) -'PLEXTOR DVDR PX-800A 1.00'-(1) Module sfmmcx.cpp Line 1805 A medium error occurred. Recovery has failed. Status: 00020202 Command: 2a 00 00 00 02 8a 00 00 1a 00 Sense: 03 0c 08 Info: 00 00 00 ba Specific: 00 00 00 Extra: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Please help. Thanks. |

What sort of cd are you trying to make? By that, I mean is it a single track "testing my audio" cd, or is it a collection cd with many tracks? SForge only burns in track at once, so if you have many tracks and don't want gaps between them, then it's not the program for burning your discs. (that's where CDArchitect comes into play). I mention this in case it affects what you're doing and therefore causes you to bypass this problem entirely Anyway, more towards your problem. HAve you got "buffer underrun protection" selected?, are you burning at max speed only (tried a lower setting?) Those 2 settings alone are definitely worth a look. |

I'm trying to make a collection with many tracks. I was trying to do this on Sound Forge 8 without use of CD Architect. (Obviously I'm a novice, here.) I'm using a burn speed of 8X with the buffer underrun protection unchecked. I'm now doing this using CD Architect. Here was my process: 1. Render a Sound Forge project to a wav file in SF. 2. Open the wav file in CDA using Open Media 3. I checked the Add to TImeline check box and clicked open 4. I then created 3 track on the Timeline display and added appropriate text to each track 5. I then clicked Burn CD and specified that it test prior to burning 6. The result: I received the same error message: that the disk was either corrupt or dirty. In fact, I'm using a new Verbatim Music CD-R fresh off the stack. What am I doing wrong? |

keep buffer underun checked - it's very useful. (It's a method for allowing the recording process to be slowed/tempo halted if the short-term memory of the cd drive is not replenished quick enough.) My first thought would be hardware - since you have got a new drive, it could be firmware related? (could be worth an update check if you know how) as opposed to knackered through age. Either that or you're plain unlucky. Are you able to successfully burn from anything such as nero (if you have it) - (or media player etc - testing for a succesfull burn from an app with those discs) |

What are you doing wrong ? A few things, but not necessarily relatingf directly to your problem. 1 - Unless you are using some really odd file format, there is no reason to convert them to WAV in SF - CDA can cope with many file formats and specs on it's timeline. 2 - There is absolutely no reason to use 'music' CDs. Those are blanks designed to cope with the copy-crippling mechanism in stand-alone audio CD recorders. As to your problem. 1 - Ensure your writer firmware is the newest version. 2 - Ensure 'Buffer Underrun Protection' is ticked. 3 - Turn off any anti-virus or desktop search (indexing) applications. 4 - Select a consevative writing speed (8 or 16 speed maybe). 5 - Try your burn *without* CD-Text 6 - try a different brand media (though Verbatim is OK with most writers). Preferably pthylocyanine-based (silver/green-silver, or gold), not Azo (blue/purple) in my experience. geoff Message last edited on1/31/2008 5:22:16 PM byGeoff_Wood. |
