Subject:Can SF be trained to place windows in corners?

Now, with all the fade curve stuff (which I'm starting to use and appreciate in some situations), I've noticed that it would be helpful if I could get certain process windows to pop up more to the sides or the corners of my screen. Example: I edit a lot of speech files. If I need to reduce a loud breath, I typically zoom in a bit to select the gasp (which puts the edit point in the center of that window), then reach for "volume" to tame the little beast. In the past, there were no fade curves to play with, so I never really paid much attention to the fact that the process window often popped up right where I'm viewing the edit point. It was just click, bam, done! Now, I find I have to move either the process window, the audio data window, or I have to slide the audio data to the right or left to make adjustments to the fade curves. Just a suggestion here for a future SF release that might be helpful to others. Thanks for "listening." Jeff |

Not a bad point. If you are fixing just volume - have a little play with th evolume envelope. It might be a little timesaver for you (no pop-ups at all..) |

When I need attenuate breaths in narration, I use either the Process> Volume or Graphic-fade, I have them on the Toolbar for quick access. For redundant tasks like that I have assigned a function key to Edit> Repeat. Or you can hold the "Shift key" whilst selecting the menu or toolbar icon to repeat or by-pass the dialog window. This saves me lots of time anyway for redundant tasks. |

Yep. I've used the tools bars since I can remember and always did the Shift+ method...UNTIL Sony added the fade curves in SF9. Then, with the newly added fades, I suddenly found I couldn't be sure I was accurately reducing the right area of a very short selection. That meant allowing the pop-up to come up so I could make the fade adjustments. Of course, it took me months to learn that I could default the curves to 0, allowing me to finally get back to using Shift+ for the repetitive fixes. And, to Kenny, for your suggestion above...I'm not sure what you mean by "no pop-ups." If you are referring to hitting the "V" key, it not only brings of the chainer pop up, but you have to stick in 3 or 4 or more nodes to reshape an envelope. To me, that's too much work for a simple breath reduction. Jeff |

I mentioned the envelope because somewhere I thoguht you mentioned about having to go back and keep tweaking the volume you apply - reading it again on fresh eyes I can see you mentioned nothing of the sort. So just ignore me :) |
