I am having trouble finding out how to speed up the tempo of a song so I can match the beat to another to make a
smooth mix. Is there any advice on how to make a good mix and how to change the tempo or beat

Yes.  You really want to look into Sonic Foundry ACID Pro.  Otherwise,
you're working too hard.
