Time to upgrade my PC from my 4 year old VAIO tower. This PC will be used exclusively as an audio/video workstation. My primary applications are Acid Pro 6, Vegas 4, and SoundForge 8.

Among the places I've been looking are Sweetwater and Alienware. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Details!.
Assuming you are looking for a desktop. What is it's purpose. (I see audio/video workstation) but that doesn't give any info.
Multitrack recording and production? Home/Studio/Hobby/Commercial?
Standard or high def video? Multicam on from camcorder.
Budget?
Any "I really don't like £$%^ brand" restrictions?

Willingness to update software?

Are you being serious, or just trying to solicite a reaction from people.? If the latter - don't - let's keep the thread useful.

Mac is not an option to run Acid, Vegas, SForge or any Sony app. And bootcamp / parallels does not allow full access to hardware, so it's not the best choice. (and it's overpriced).

Good point, Kenny!

This will be for a home studio that I will be working out of full-time. The main function will be sound design, voiceover, and music production, but I doubt I'll ever need to do multi-track recording. The video portion will begin as camcorder/hobby and possibly develop from there, but that's probably a few years away. I'll probably wind up updating Vegas in the next year. Trying to stay under $2000, already have a Saffire firewire so I won't need a soundcard. As far as brand restrictions, we've have some bad luck with HP/Compaq for our home computers so I'm avoiding them but open to pretty much anyone else

Thanks!

...forgot to add that I don't work there; just bought a higher end quad core XP system I'm happy with. A person so inclined can buy the individual PC components (from say Newegg) and assemble a very high end machine saving big $$, but that was not an option for myself.
