Subject:Am I Double Screwed?

I believe that I'm having trouble with my sound card my Sonic Forge software. I'm only getting one track to record. No major problem, I thought, I'll just switch track and record the tracks for my right and left speakers separately and them combine them later. After all, that is the sort of thing that his software is designed for. Problem is that after I did that, the sound was badly distorted. This brings me to my problem with Sound Forge (4.0B). Just how fast does a computer have to be to run this software? On the box, it says that it will run on a 486; I have a 166 mhz Pentium and still have to record at the lowest possible sample rates if I'm not to get clicking sounds and bad distortion. Am I screwed, or just stupid? |

Kermit, You guys have a virus or something? You sent 5 messages of the same thing each with a 3 minute delay... Check your machine for the Melissa Virus... JS |

For some reason many of the messages here are being doubled (or worse! check out Spectral's many identical posts!!!). I have a funny feeling it the Sonic Foundry news server doing it - it's happening in the CD Architect forum as well. I don't know, but almost every message here is beign duplicated, except Bruce's and mine... Are all of you guys using the server from the Sonic Foundry page or your own News Reader? I'm using Netscape Messenger (4.5), pointing to news.sonficfoundry.com (my ISP doesn't provide a news server). My message doesn't appear duplicated, at least not that I can see! Very weird... maybe they're hitting SEND too many times!??! hmmmmm... clicking, distortion,one channel...check your video. ;-) Change your graphics acceleration to none (in the control panel -) and reduce your colors to 16 (colors -not bits)Right click on the desktop..properties ->settings, etc. If the sound is good, try moving the SF window around while the file is playing back. The audio cable your using might be hosed. Try another cable before you start messing with drivers and the like. The simplest explanation is usually where the problem lies. I think you're going to want to start thinking about building a new machine. A 166 mhz is probably not going to cut it with a lot of sound aps and narrows your tolerance levels while trouble shooting. A 166 mhz machine is pretty much a paper weight these days.
