Subject:Plans for 24 Bit ? . . also question about Dynamics . .

Good morning,

Question # 1:
Now that 24 Bit/96 KHz hardware is becoming available to
our desktops(DAL's new card, LucidTechnology's new set of
ADDA's, for example), I was wondering when SF might be
releasing an update that will enable 24 Bit sample size.

What I would like to be able to do is record in 24 bit
sample size at 44.1 KHz. Then edit, apply dynamics, etc,
at 24 resolution, then be able to create std CD 16-bit,
44.1 for current CD-R's.

Question # 2:
RE: XFX packs, did I read somewhere that SF 4.5 includes
these ? I'm now using 4.5b, which has the graphic and
multiband dynamics effects. Are these the same as XFX ?

Thanks and regards,
Rick Z

I also want to know about a 24 bit release. I use SF as a
tool in Cakewalk (maybe I should have bought the plug-ins
instead) where I like to record at a 20 or 24 bit word
length. I've been afraid to edit my Cakewalk audio with SF
4.5 because it won't accept a word length over 16 bits. So
what happens if I try to apply SF to 20 or 24 bit audio?

So
>what happens if I try to apply SF to 20 or 24 bit audio?
the answer is easy. SF will not accept the files, it does not know the
format (I have tried)
Good to know there a re more people waiting for the 24 bit version.
Please soundforge, please, please, release us out of the 16 bit prison.

Yeah, its about time they do a 24bit upgrade.

I dont have my gadgetlabs 824 to do 16bit if it works with 24bit

Now I´m forced to use... wavelab..yuk. (sorry sf, but! its only a demo
version :) )
and I realy realy wont buy this very unstable program from steinboys.

Peace.

What we really need is 24-bit ability AND a dithering function (a
real-time plug-in would be great !). Then we can do true 24-bit
mastering and elegantly dither down to 16 bits at the final stage
(and even keep a 24-bit version for HDCD/SACD/DVD-A formats).

This is a crucial issue IMO. Without it, SF will become useless to
me, and probably everybody else who can create production masters
with greater than 16-bit resolution.
