I have a problem with Sound Forge 4.5 XP. The symptoms are these: 1) When I open a WAV file and play it in the editor, there is a lot of static in the background, 2) If I select the file in the Open menu (and have it play while I am still in that menu), there is no static, 3) The static goes away when I select a drop down menu, 4) I downloaded the Sound Forge 4.5 demo and have the same results, 5) I am able to use three other WAV editor programs without experiencing this problem. This makes the program unusuable. The support line does not know what the problem could be. Please let me know if you have any experience with this problem. Thx -- Bill -- |

There are two options in the Options | Preferences... General tab for video cards. Compatible Draw mode and Compatible Scroll mode. From the help file.... Compatible Draw Mode (for Broken Video Drivers) Because Sound Forge’s drawing routines are highly optimized, they increase the chance of causing little-known video card problems to arise. Some video cards have bugs in their drivers which can make your system lock up when Sound Forge tries to draw a waveform. If you experience a system lockup frequently in Sound Forge, it is likely that your video card is causing this problem. Compatible draw mode uses a different method of drawing the waveform which, although not as smooth, puts less stress on the video card. With some video cards, this mode actually increases the draw speed. However, more flashing can occur. This problem is known to happen with ATI’s Mach64 card when using High Color (16-bit) in Windows 95. Compatible Scroll Mode When this mode is enabled, Sound Forge will use a less optimized method of scrolling the Waveform Display. In some instances, this can reduce interference problems between your audio and video card during Smooth Scroll playback. © 1999 Sonic Foundry, Inc. Try enabling and disabling either/both of these to see if the noise goes away. Peter will_h wrote in message ... >I have a problem with Sound Forge 4.5 XP. Peter - Thanks for the help! I could only find the Compatible Draw Mode check-box. I checked it and tried it. I still have the static. I couldn't find the Compatible Scroll mode entry. I am using 4.0 XP (instead of 4.5 XP). That may be the reason. Some other pieces of information that may help: I have a COMPAQ Proliant 800, it only has SCSI drives, the video board is embedded on the mother board. Please let me know if you have any other ideas which may help. Thanks! -- Bill -- Peter Haller wrote: >>There are two options in the Options | Preferences...
