I'm looking at sound cards for a new computer. I have had SoundBlaster cards in the past because that's what came with the computers. I know several people on this forum have mentioned M-Audio cards before, but some of those don't get that good of reviews. I have a Rhode Stereo Video Mic that I use with my camcorder and also my kids plug it into the computer to record their music (sax, trumpet, guitar, piano). I'm not doing this for a business, but still want good audio when I edit in Sound Forge. Some that were recommended M-Audio Revolution 7.1, Delta 44. Any thoughts on these or other cards? Also, I have Logitech 5.1 speakers on my current computer, which have been okay. I'm looking at the Klipsch GMX A-2.1 speakers. I know they're not surround sound, but most of my editing is stereo anyway. Anybody know anything about these speakers and the sound quality? Thanks |

m-audio is a good 'prosumer' soundcard manufacturer. another one in the same league is echo (for instance, the echo mia-midi soundcard). it also depends on what you plan to record. will you be recording multiple sources/instruments at the same time? then you will need a soundcard with several inputs rather than just a line-in. the delta-44 for instance offers four inputs and four outputs which can be used at the same time. but if you're just recording one source at a time, you could also go for the m-audio audiophile or the echo mia-midi, which are cheaper but just as good in quality. as for speakers, i'm no Klipsch expert, but i do know they are a lot better than the Logitechs. if the quality of your mixes is a big concern you might want to look for a decent set of monitor speakers. Audio being equal, I prefer Echo cards for their no-nonsense install and stable drivers. |

I prefer Echo too. The MIA may be prosumer, but the Layla 3G and Audiofire8 I have are definitely pro. Stable and I do mean stable drivers. Firewire performance far better than anything else I've tried. |
