I'm new to this game, I managed to get the audio into the PC, sounds okay, still a bit background noisy? how can i get rid of this, i used noise gate but it didn't work to well. Also, I would like to compress a .au file under a meg! pref. around 200-300k. the file isn't long, just over 30 seconds? any suggestions? ta, Alex. |

Hey there, You can save the file as a real audio file. It degrades the quality a little bit, but not too bad. Also, you can try saving it as an mp3 file, for which you need an mp3 encoder (at least w/ SF XP you need an external encoder... I'm not sure about SF 4.5). The Real Audio solution should almost definitely take a file that short to the size you want. Beware of turning noisy (if by noisy you don't mean 'I can hear the phone ring in the background' :)audio files into RealAudio files. The Real codecs (speech in-particular) don't care much for extranious noise and result in a nasty 'underwater' kind of sound. Also remember to use speech codecs for speech and music codecs for music. I'd recommend the 16kbps speech codec (8khz freq response) for noisy speech files and the 16k (high response) minimum for encoding noisy source audio. Don't get me wrong - I dig Real, but just thought you might want to know one of the downsides re: noisy audio. BTW - how are you getting the audio into your machine?
