No Acid Pro 7 on NAMM. Got the email today (as you probably have gotten also). What's the next possible show? |

Yep, I saw the announcement email. :( It's been awhile though, so I hope something is brewing.... I would love to just use Acid alone without having to resort to the power of other editors (i.e. grouping, moving a clip between tracks without copy/paste, seeing the grid lines through a clip, insert a new track anywhere instead of only at the bottom, see the visual effect of fades on waveforms, ability to grab the edge of a clip and time stretch it)...those things alone would make me super happy. |

I wouldn't call it early - the last release of Acid Pro was way back in July 2006! Very disappointed with the e-mail, especially as they seemed to make a big deal about it being the 10th anniversary of Acid but the only product announcement was... "we're also going to make an announcement on an exciting new limited-time loop product" |

That "announcement" is about as flat and lifeless as year-old roadkill. Absolutely pitiful. Why even bother ? |

ScarKord, are you sure about that? For some reason, I wanna say it was March/April of 2006. A wee bit of knitpicking, but if true, it would bring the total length of time close to two years since the last version. |

Acid Pro 6 was indeed released in April of 2006 (the first week if I remember correctly). |

AcidPro6 was announced in February 2006, and released in April 2006. Two years between releases is OK - assuming some reasonable advances and thorough testing. |

I don't get this obsession with the new release of any software, It seems that within 48 hours of Acid Pro 6 coming out, people here were already salivating over the prospect of version 7. For me, version 6 lacks nothing, and has only a few minor quirks. So to find people getting vocally UPSET that there is no new version yet to pay their money for, strikes me as Pavlovian conditioning. Maybe there are subliminal messages programmed into Acid which cause this. If so, I wish Sony would release a subliminal message loop collection which I can put into my projects to make my clients BEG me to bill them for something. |

feign, it all depends what you do and what you need. If AP6 has everything for you, great ! I've got about a dozen 'frontline" software apps and most get updated every year. Happily I've been able to stop upgrading about half of them for the past few years as they're at the level of funtionality that perfectly suits what I need to do. Sadly AP6 isn't one of them. I need bus-to-bus routing so I can finally give up on Sonar. With that I'll be happy to sit on AP7 for a good while. Edit: And of course there's always the "Christmas Factor". You might already have a lot of great toys, but you're not going to write a letter to Santa saying "Thanks, but I don't think I need anything this year." Hmmm that release date was NOT what I had stored in my memory banks. I must be losing my mind, and I'm only 36! |

Maybe I phased it incorrectly. I mean the ability to have effects buses on VSTis. |

"And of course there's always the "Christmas Factor". You might already have a lot of great toys, but you're not going to write a letter to Santa saying "Thanks, but I don't think I need anything this year." " --------------- Er, Santa doesn't charge for presents. Sony charges for its "toys". To me, the upgrade obsession with much software is more like the "pusher factor", where the local junkies can't wait for their favorite drug dealer to show up and take their money for whatever new wild and wonderful chemical substances he has to offer. This is not to denigrate Acid. It's my second-favorite program, after Flash, and I love to use it both for work and play, and if the new version has additional features that are genuinely useful to me, I will certainly buy it and hence support its development. But since nobody here has any idea what's even in the next version, it seems really WEIRD that people are jumping up and down crying for it. I mean, if Sony had officially announced that Acid Pro 7 will do everything AP6 does but even better, AND it will generate Top 40 hits and symphonies at the touch of a button AND it will enlarge your male appendage, I would join in the chorus of anticipation. But to be demanding new for the sake of new, is, like I said, a symptom of addictive behavior. Edit: I'll shut up now, promise. Message last edited on1/15/2008 9:41:18 PM byfeign. |

AP6 certainly works very well for me too but it is not supported on my new computer which runs Vista 64 Ultimate. I got that machine in July 2007. At that time all my other software was not only Vista ready but ran in my 64 bit environment without issue. The only thing I had to leave behind is an older Epson scanner that didn't have Vista drivers. It's plugged in my second machine that runs XP Pro. So, aside from any new functionality, one of the reasons I'm eager to see AP7 come out is native support for Vista. WHat is frustrating is that several software vendors have released Vista support patches but Sony decided to wait for a new release which is frustrating sionce Vista has been out for over a year and in public beta for what? 3 years before that? It's not like they didn't have time to see it coming. |

>>but it is not supported on my new computer which runs Vista 64 Ultimate This whole misleading information put out by Microsoft about non-support basically implied that they would not-support the underlying database software any longer, not that this software would no longer function. No where did they say the software would not run on Vista, yet people assume that's what was meant. This was due to a newer version of SQL. I have installed both Acid Pro 5 and 6 on Vista Ultimate 32-bit with Aero Features Enabled. My copy of Acid will not accept my previous upgrade serial code in 6.0d so I have to install the Acid Pro 5 first (a pain yes). The trick is having a good clean install to start off with on both installs. If anything goes wrong with the installation process you are screwed whether it's XP or Vista. There are plenty of posts regarding this on the forum. I simply kept restore points and cleaned up until I got a good no-problem install and it's run great every since. The only problems I encountered were with beta m-audio vista drivers for Firewire 410 which crapped out on me a few times. Fortunately they just released official drivers which I will stress test. I did start to experience a few SQL problems, but I attribute that mostly to other software that has been installed since then or the m-audio driver. As for Vista 64-bit the software should probably run more stable as the 32-bit area is run in an isolated area. Just remember that you have to run the program as Administrator the first time so that it can correctly set everything. Also when you are adding/removing VST plug-ins. Regarding 64-bit windows, there are not many software programs that can really take advantage of this. Plus there are not always drivers available or the 32-bit versions are not compatible. You might get a 10% performance boost. Don't forget that windows can run older programs or drivers in what is called compatibility mode. Message last edited on1/21/2008 12:47:03 AM bymobiledjs.com. |

>>but it is not supported on my new computer which runs Vista 64 Ultimate > This whole misleading information put out by Microsoft about non-support > basically implied that they would not-support the underlying database > software any longer What I meant is that Sony themselves does not support this configuration. I use the media manager only occasionally so even if it doesn't work as shipped in Vista it wouldn't really bother me. I've ran into issues when i first tried Acid Pro 6.0d in Vista when i first got the machine (mostly with VSTi plugins) and I have not made a real effort to sort through them yet as I installed Acid on my second machine running XP Pro. It has less powerful hardware but it's plenty powerful enough for my needs at this time. > Just remember that you have to run the program as Administrator the first > time so that it can correctly set everything. Also when you are adding/ > removing VST plug-ins. My main user account on Vista has full admin priviledges so that was not an issue. > Regarding 64-bit windows, there are not many software programs that can > really take advantage of this. Plus there are not always drivers available or > the 32-bit versions are not compatible. You might get a 10% performance > boost. 64-bit drivers were not an issue for me and shouldn't be for anyone using modern hardware. I had that machine built in July last year (2007) and all my hardware had 64-bit drivers at that time. The only piece I had to leave behind was an older Epson scanner who I knew to begin with had no 64-bit drivers. It's connected to the XP box. Aside from that, all my software runs on Vista 64 Ultimate without issue except for one server product (I'm a Web designer) that wouldn't instal (Adobe ColdFusion 8). As for performance, I cannot compare directly with similar hardware running 32-bit Windows but, I use some very system resources intensive graphic apps which seem to run slower on similarly spec'ed PCs with 32-bit Vista than on mine. I think the 64-bit performance gain is a lot more significant than 10%. My machine runs very fast and performance is never an issue, even with several apps open. I do use an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Dual Core proc on a full 800Mhz bus Asus Crosshair mobo (including 4 GB of 800MHz DDR2 Dual channel Ram) which seems to outperform similarly rated Intel chips (2x 2.6 GHz Core Duo) from casual comparison. > Don't forget that windows can run older programs or drivers in what is > called compatibility mode. Yes, I'll have to re-check that for the plugins that gave me problems. |
