Subject:Problems recording MIDI and audio.

I just bought Acid 7.0 and did all of the updates. I've been trying to record both audio and MIDI inputs and have bad results. When I try to record a guitar, either straight through the line in or through a USB controlled pedal, I get maybe a second of normal volume then it seems to mute everything down to about half. It has less effect on higher notes though. I have had this problem on two separate computers.

As for the MIDI, no matter how slowly I change keys on my keyboard Acid only registers one out of a handful of notes. Anything more than quarter notes will only register the first note played, held for as long as I am hitting any keys.

Please fill out your system specs in your user profile.

What audio/MIDI hardware are you using?
What driver model do you have selected for audio playback?
What are your audio buffer settings?

For the computer having both the MIDI and audio problem I am using a yamaha keyboard with a m-audio uno MIDI controller and an alesis multimix usb for any audio recording. The system specs on that computer are Pentium 4 processor 532 with an integrated intel extreme 2 graphics card w/ 32 MB shared memory.

For the computer having just audio problems the specs are as follows:
Intel celeron processor 530, 252 MB mobile intel graphics media accelerator x3 100 and 1 GB DDR2.

For both computers I have tried changing the buffer and latency settings and I have no idea what you mean by driver model for audio playback.

If this is no where near sufficient then I am sorry for the waste of time, no one around here is good with anything more than a tape deck so its a shot in the dark.

Mason, you computer specs go in your profile. That helps us help you.

Secondly, I don't understand your last post.

Acid records midi and audio very well. It was designed to do that. But... there is a learning cure. For example, is your keyboard transmiting midi? Is there software that controls your audio card? What are it's settings?

Also, Namm is starting, so some of the regular people may be missing for a few days.

Hang in there.

I am using Microsoft Sound Mapper for both my input and my output. It has 6 specified for my audio buffers and for the buffer size MME is selected. Also I have the priority set to time critical.

This may be part of your problem. Did the Alesis Multimix come with ASIO drivers? If so you should be using them. Go into Options | Preferences | Audio Device and select ASIO as the device type. This will give you the best performance.

Through talking to m-audio I found out that the midi problem lies in their product.
For recording the guitar I have been attempting to hook it straight into the line in port. Should I be using the ASIO drivers for this as well?

Yes to the asio drivers.

Can anyone recommend a different asio driver that works well with acid. I cannot currently get the one from the multimix onto one of the computers.
