Subject:Anyway around hearing yourself when you record?

I do not have a preamp or anything... I just want to make songs! I am basicially doing home studio stuff: drum machine, bass, electric/accoustic guitar & vocals. I have a somewhat fancy tascam portable 4-track recorder with tape deck. Can I use that to listen to myself record on Acid 7 somehow? Like a preamp? I'm a little disappointed that I may now have to go out and spend another 100 bucks on a preamp to hear myself recording tracks when making my music... :-(

You might be able to use your Tascam 4-track as mixer if it will output to your PC and has a headphone jack to monitor it's inputs live. You would connect your instruments to the Tascam, the output of the Tascam to the audio input of you PC and monitor via headphones. Otherwise, you will need some way to monitor via hardware.

I did some surfing around and came across this Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 USB-Audio Interface, it lets me plus stuff in via it and also channel stuff out, but it's got a headphone jack and it seems to be doing the trick for this little room studio recordings I'm doing with this. Not greatest quality product, but doing the trick for 30 bucks! Thanks!
