Can anyone give me (or direct me to another post) a layman's explanation of ReWire, its advantages, and you use it? I've used ACID for years, but had no reason to rewire anything. I thought that's why we switched to computer recording, for less rewiring! (Joke.)

Thanks in advance.

And that's *exactly* what ReWire is. It's a virtual MIDI and Audio cable between two pieces of software that both support the ReWire protocol. One piece of software acts as the Host and another acts as the plug-in Device. ACID can be both! So you can add ACID to another host program like SONAR at it will behave just like any other VSTi plug-in or ACID can act as a Host and you can plug-in other applications like Reason as a device. MIDI and timing information flows from the host to the device and audio flows back from the device to the host so that it can be recorded. It is far, far, better than using external cables and MIDI Time Code or MIDI Clock.

Take a trip over to the Propellerhead's web site. They have the best discussions on all things ReWIre, and an exellent tutorial on how to use Reason with ACID.
