Not sure if this is new news but Yellow Tools has a free version of their Independence 2 sampler workstation called Independence Free and it comes with 2GB of samples. You need to register with their site to download it but it is free after that.

Have you tried it? I downloaded it, but never installed it. Over on kvr there were a lot of people having problems, and I just set aside for later.

But since you mentioned it, now I'm curious.

Yup. I wouldn't have posted if I hadn't tried in in ACID first. ;-) I installed it, load it into ACID, recorded two MIDI tracks with two different instruments, saved the project, pressed new, reloaded the project, and everything came back as it should with the correct instruments assigned to the right tracks. Not an extensive test by any means but enough to prove that it fundamentally works in ACID Pro 6.0.

I did have a problem on the first load. The interface came up empty. Then I loaded the standalone version and that worked, then I went back to ACID and it worked there too. Strange but it's all working now.

Independence Free is great, with very realistic instruments and nice voices. I have no problem with this sampler and I like it very much. There are many restrictions but still I found it very useful... especially for its guitars, basses and drums
