When I download 8 packs and see the tune - the events have the black parts or multiple bits happening - where as I seem to only be able to draw in a loop or one shot. Is this Acid express functionality or have I not read the manual sufficiently? Thanks Bugle

Zoom in your project's time using the up and down cursor keys on your keyboard. Those black bits you see should be more readily visible as normal looking events. Use Ctrl+up and down cursor keys to jump in large increments. Use F8 to toggle snapping and you should be able to paint in events with precision. You could also temporarily disable snapping by holding down Shift and dragging (but not drawing) an event. Note that this technique doesn't apply too much to One-Shots. Wait till you upgrade, especially if you upgrade to Acid Pro.
