Subject:Acid Pro + Sforge both ASIO together??

Does anyone know how to get ASIO working for both Acid Pro 6 and Soundforge 8.0 when they are both open?

I use a Digidesign Mbox as a normal ASIO soundcard for my pc which works a treat! but when I open Acid Pro 6 it becomes the ASIO driver soundcard for this program whcih is great..

Now i prefer to edit and record my parts in Soundforge as its a 2-track destructive editor, so when I either click on a loop inside Acid Pro 6 and select "Edit in Soundforge" it automatically opens up Soundforge as your editor, but it says "error - ASIO already in use" and it diverts Soundforge to the crappy onboard soundcard.

Is there anyway that either program can "Release" the ASIO drivers for each application so that I get the benefit of the ASIO sound for which ever program I am working on at the time?

So i can then sit in Soundforge, record audio into it, edit and master, then flip to Acid to sequence it?

I have tried my sounds/system preferences on the PC but this still doesnt work, I think i need Asio for both.

Funny thing is, im sure years ago I have both SF, and Acid running ontop of each other with an old Echo Gina 20 Soundcard, without any problems!!! (maybe this wasnt ASIO though?)

Thanks

Your ASIO driver must be multi-client capable in order for more than one program to use your sound interface while both programs are open simultaneously. If it's not multi-client, you'll see the error you describe. I don't know much about either device you've mentioned, but it would appear that the ASIO driver for the Echo was multi-client and the Digidesign is not.

In the Preferences menu of both apps, make sure to check the option, "Close audio and MIDI ports when not the active application". That should alleviate the issue unless I'm mistaken.

Edit: I just checked on Digidesign's support site... The Mbox driver is indeed single-client only.

Ah thanks for your help. SO i need multi-client soundcard or drivers?

Do M-Audio do any multi-client soundcards?

Or can the multi-client thing be updated with new Digidesign drivers?

i like using my Mbox with Acid, but this is the only thing letting it down with Sforge and Acid open, is there an updated fix to this issue?

It's the drivers that need to be multi-client.

M-Audio does produce multi-client drivers for their sound hardware.

Digidesign certainly could update their drivers to be multi-client, but the likelihood is that they won't. Something you could try would be to use an alternative ASIO driver such as ASIO4All as a substitute, since it has multi-client support.

The only other thing I could suggest is to see if the Digidesign can be used as a Windows Classic Wave device in the preferences for your audio device in Sound Forge, as that would use a different driver and may provide a workaround for you.

:::giggling::::
Im sorry to sound sadistic, but anyone who buys MAduio or Digidesign hardware and doesn't use Pro Tools seems to pay the price. I have sold more Maudio gear (USB MIDI keyboards, MIDI interfaces and Audio interfaces) than I can count after the drivers locked up my non-Pro Tools apps, especially Acid Pro 6. Their drivers are flaky (accident?) and I could swear they make the M-Powered audio interfaces so they will only be issue free with ProTools.

So sue me
:)
