Subject:After recording midi problem

When I record a midi sound lets say a flute I see the recording in the time line. Then when I hit playback there is no sound. I currently solve this by saving the project then exiting it, when I come back I can hear the sounds. Is there a way to solve this?

Thank you,
Randini

Hmmm... do you have the latest updates for your version of ACID? This should not be. Playback should be immediate after you finish recording.

Yes, I have 6.0 D. It seems to be a hit and miss. Sometimes I will hear the playback for new midi track then all of a sudden not then I have to restart the program and everything is fine. Sometimes the track sound I can hear and it goes down about 3/4 in volume but when I restart everything is fine.

Thank you for all your help,
Randy

I also notice when this happens I can not preview the midi track even though I have the preview volume all the way up.

sometimes it happens when after recording midi track the first notes are not at the begining of a measure, after quantization of a track everuthing goes to its place, even if you don't wish to quantize entire track do it only for the first notes so when you play it back cursor can capture those first notes

We have had this problem reported in the past. We have not been able to reproduce or explain it.

The next time it happens, please try the following as closely as you can. (Take your time as the anwsers and details you provide will help us to determine the cause of this problem.)

- Go into inline MIDI editing mode
- Edit one note by change its duration or other aspect.
- Play back from the main time line.

Do you hear the MIDI playback?

If this does not work, try the following:

- Move the track volume Fader.
- Play

Do you hear the MIDI playback?

If this does no work, try the following:

- Add a MIDI clip to the track you just recorded by creating an empty MIDI clip and painting notes with the most while using inline MIDI editing. This can be before or after the recorded MIDI data.
- Play.

Does the new MIDI data you painted play?
Does the recorded MIDI play?

Thanks
Peter

Peter,

I think I did report this issue once. But here's what I discovered about it :

It always happens when there's at least 2 VSTi in the project, and one of them have multiple outputs (i.e. Kontakt, etc.), and the other one (i.e. the malfunctionning VSTi) only 1 output.

Recording is Okay, but playback of the recorded notes just won't work (same thing, I have to reload the project so that I hear my work on this midi track / vsti).

You should dig into this "template". i.e. one mutliple output VSTi and one solo output VSTi.

Happened alot of time especially with Loung Lizard, or ReFX plugins.

Edit : This is one of the most redundant issue I've ever met. I get this like twice a week when working on projects. I'll mail you directly if I have more info about it, it's a serious issue.

HTH

Hi Peter

I am able to reproduce this issue in Acid 6.0d build 363. There is no need to record MIDI in order to make it happen, but when it does happen, none of the steps you mentioned (inline MIDI editing etc) fix it. The vstis I am able to reproduce this with are Steinberg's The Grand (1.0.6) and Native Instruments' B4 II (2.0.3.009).

This is what I'm doing (auto MIDI input routing is OFF):
1- New project
2- Insert The Grand synth
3- Create track and route output to the Grand
4- Play keyboard or record MIDI - notes are heard from the Grand
5- Insert B4 synth
6- Audio output from the Grand immediately stops irrespective of track focus, input ports etc
7- Switch track output to B4
8- Play keyboard - notes are heard from B4
9- HERE'S THE STRANGE PART. Switching to a different preset in the Grand (which is only available with the drop-down box provided in Acid, not within the Grand's GUI) makes the Grand produce audio again.
10- EVEN STRANGER. Switching back to the Grand's original preset (the one that was active before B4 was inserted) again stops audio playback from the Grand.

In short, once a second vsti has been inserted, the Grand will only produce audio when using a preset different to the one that was active when the second vsti was inserted.

It doesn't happen with EVERY other vsti. E.g. in addition to B4, I have found this happens when inserting Lounge Lizard Session, but NOT when inserting Atmosphere.

I hope this info helps.

This is an entirely different issue, but thanks for the details. We will look into it.

Thanks for the reply, but...hmm, I'm not sure how you know this is something different.

It does produce the same effect as described by the OP: (1) record MIDI (2) play it back (3) no sound from recorded MIDI.

Obviously I have inserted another VST inbetween recording and playing back, but the reason I was doing this was to see if the behaviour described by Zacchino could be reproduced.

At any rate, it's clearly a complex issue so I hope the information is helpful.

Because I wrote the code.

Details posts like yours are always a good thing. We rarely get such detailed reports.

Thanks,
Peter

Good call :)

Thanks for the reply. My piano roll and list editors vanished *twice* yesterday (and could be restored only by resetting all the preferences) so I am currently keeping a very close eye on the program. I will post again if I find more repeatable behaviour.

I had seen this issue as well, but I am just sadden by the new ACID.

But it still a slamming tool for mixing loops!

The MIDI performance with my NI collection is so so...

kbruff, can you be more specific? Do you have problems with MIDI playback after inserting the B4 II?
