I thought I'd tell you guys about a group-buy by esoundz/Sonic Reality. The number is right now at 58, so the price is now $239.00.

Here it is: http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=1768

Here is the details:

This is the ultimate Sonic Reality SampleTank sound and software bundle.

For less than the price of Sonik Synth 2 itself you get:

Sonik Synth 2.1 (software and sounds)
SampleTank 2.5 (software engine only - that can play SS2.1 sounds -AND- import AKAI, WAV, AIFF, SampleCell and read any SampleTank format sounds)
50 + 50 (100) bonus COMBI patches for BOTH SS2.1 and ST2.5 (referencing the SS2.1 sounds)
All 6 Sonic Reality Expansion Tanks (ST format sounds)
Plus the Sonic Reality ST2.5 Bonus disc that has some unreleased sounds (like a drum kit from Studiophonik) and loops, Miroslav sounds and cool Combi patches for ST2.5

The MSRP of all of that was originally over $900. In this group buy it starts at $299 and can go down as low as $199 for ALL of it!

The price is now $219.00 with 96 people signed up. 4 more people and the price goes down to $199.00.

Thanks for the heads-up. Looks like a great buy.

Do you know if IK Multimedia still uses the Pace/iLok protection? I have never bought any of their products because of this (and I never will if they still use it). If not, I'll probably join this because I love those classic synths (and owned quite a few of them in the past).

They dropped the ILock. I'm with you on it. I have one on my Scarbee Keyboard Collection (Halion), and it took me almost one year to get it stable. No more ilock for now!

BTW, I really like SS2. The pads and vocals are especially nice.

That is an absolute steal! I'd be on it like a shot, except I already own everything in that list apart for Sonik Synth 2.

Oh and that ST2.5 bonus disc is pretty cool too. I especially liked the Studiophonik drum kit - can't wait to try it out when Roland deliver my HD-1 V-drum kit :)

I've heard mixed reports about the sound quality of a lot of this stuff. Not the top end by any means. And that website - yech!

If your interested, try the demo. That way you can decide for yourself.

I own both Sonik Synth 2 and SampleTank 2.5. The sounds remind me of sounds in Rompler keyboards (like Motif). For sampled stuff, Kontakt samples are usually more detailed, but the IK stuff is very stable, loads quickly, has great effects, and works for "fleshing out" songs quickly. And the quality is really good. I think the ability to work quickly and easy is why it has done so well.

I like it for quick, but you may not. That's why there are so many VSTis

BTW, I'm not even part of the group-bye. I already own the stuff. So I've got no dog in the fight.

Where did you read this? I didn't even realize there was anything more after 100+. This is in addition to the six expansion tanks? wow!

As DKeenum suggested, download it and see for yourself. I downloaded the free version of Sonic Synth 2 and tried it out first and I absolutely loved how light weight it is. The idea that they give you raw waves from classic synths that you can use for wavetable synthesis and then stacking with 8 other sounds is really great. I also love the logical layout.

It really depends on how you plan to use it. Loading up a heavy weight Steinway Grand in Kontakt just to add some piano to a rock song might be overkill. It's going to get lost in the mix anyway so why not use a lighter weight sound. If, however, I was doing a piano ballad, the Steinway from Kontakt is exactly what I'd use. Sonik Synth seems like it can pack a lot of punch in a small footprint and when you are layering sounds, light weight is important.

I just upgraded to Kontakt 3 which came with 30GB of sounds this time (as apposed to the 15GB in Kontakt 2 and 2GB in the original Kontakt) so I've got lots of high quality instruments for solo work. There was just something about the ease of use of Sonik Synth that attracted me to it so I joined the group buy after playing with it for only a few hours.

You can never have enough sounds for layers.

There are two more bonuses now. When they went above 300, everyone who takes part in the group buy got (or rather will get) $20 epointz credited to their profile. If it goes above 400, this increases to $40. And I think they are around 391 at the moment.

Got to be quick though, I think it closes tomorrow.
