to add more info. I am importing mpeg-2 files that open fine in vegas 6.0.

The same problem goes for me. I have lots of mpg2-clips from a sony disk-camera, and they all import fine in Vegas7, but in Vegas8a audio is missing!

Does anyone know whats wrong?

This seems to be a problem with AC-3 soundtracks, and it's a format used by quite a lot of consumer camcorders. I can no longer import some my own MPEG-2 clips because the soundtrack is AC-3, which is ironic given that I created them in Vegas.

so then, there is no way to do this.??? did I spend $$ for a program I can't use? must I convert mpeg to something else in order to use them in vegas? whats the real deal here............

I have installed VegasPro8a on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. its the same problem on both systems.

I really hope the Vegas-team will come up with a fix to this problem really soon, because my upgraded Vegas is completely useless at the moment!

here's a workaround. In V6 or v7 open up your mpeg-2 file and render it as an mpeg4. Mpeg4's will open in V8 with audio. this is a time consuming deal if you want take the time to do it. Of course, if you know what order you want your files, you could bring several mp2's into v6 and render all to mp4. I know as a paying customer of software, it would seem this should'nt have to be done. hope they fix it soon....

Check out this thread...

...it talks about the problem, but in reference to not being able to preview mpg files in vegas explorer. It is suggested changing the extension to .vob then dragging it to the timeline. Worked for me.

Come on Sony and Main Concept...
