Subject:ACID FOR A BEGINNER????????????

Hey everyone! Well, here's my predicament... I'm an
aspiring, true beginner, music maker. I'm looking to
create hip-hop, rap, pop-dance type stuff. I was
originally going to get a hardware sampler/sequencer but
I'm now leaning towards doing it all on software. I've
heard that software is generally much more user friendly
and flexible. Acid has been recommended to me and I want
to know what anyone out there thinks about it (especially
in terms of my situation; true beginner and the type of
music I'm looking to create) My plan is to use ACID to
take snippets of songs off regular audio cd's (or even
whole instrumentals), loop them, tweak them etc and then
put vocals on top and make my own creation. Can Acid do
this?? I'm also planning to get either a hardware
synthesizer or a software synthesizer to create some sounds
and then run them trough ACID. I'm concerned though about
how much it is going to cost to upgrade my computer so that
it will be able to handle such intense software. I have a
Toshiba lap-top that has a 266 MHz Intel Pentium MMX, 32MB
of RAM and I'm a little confused about the soundcard. The
manual says under "sound support"... "Yamaha Audio System
supporting 16-bit stereo, Windows Sound System and Sound
Blaster Procompatible" etc. I'm assuming I will need to
get a new sound card, but which one??? Also how much will
all of this cost to upgrade??? Anyway, any advice would be
GREATLY appreciated!!! Also, in terms multi-track
recording, I was set on getting a used Roland VS-880EX to
record my vocals into, but maybe there's a software program
that does that as well if not better??? Anyway, sorry to
write so much, thanks again for your time and take care!!!
