Hi Folks, Been exercising ACID lately (for complete mixdown of 30 track session of loops, which were made by ACID, and some by FLSTUDIO, etc.) Now I have 30 16 bar loops at 44.1 / 16 bit. I have been struggling with the amount og time required to load the project whenever I restart the application. It takes so long to boot up as opposed to tools like REAPER. Besides the long project load time, whenever I move the GUI around I get clicks and pops and some strange noise, which leaks into the monitoring. During playback it all sounds fine however. But the load time... Thanks, Kevin *** |

Acid Pro 6.0d download size is 105mb - Reaper has grown to a whopping 3.5mb. It would make sense that Reaper would launch faster (almost instantly) and perform more smoothly in certain situations. The launch time for both Acid and Vegas sometimes makes me wonder whether I even clicked the icon correctly. On several occasions I've actually launched 2 or more instances of each because of this. |

Would you believe if I told that it actually bothers me emotionally that these tools dont perform as well as they should. I mean ACID should be the cream of loop based mix down applications. I tried REAPER and i was so impressed that I was in a state of denial... All this money spent on x,y,z it really bothered me. Sad and Confused, Kevin *** |

"All this money spent on x,y,z it really bothered me. Sad and Confused, Kevin" Yeah I hear you. After observing Reaper's jaw-dropping development, I'll never again believe a developer when they say something isn't possible. Its simply matter of vision, will and leadership. A company needs all 3 of these components working together to do extraordinary things and stay on the leading edge of their industry. But I'm starting to move into risky territory here with this kind of language so I'll stop. |

Hi drbam - having seen you so involved around these parts over the years I was fascinated to see this post. The "launching 2 instances" comment made me laugh because I've done that so many times for the same reason. A lot of what you said struck a chord - maybe development with a bigger team within a corporate structure just slows things down massively and I wonder how many of the team actually make music as opposed to just the software. Even after moving across to REAPER I used old versions of ACID & Vegas for a while in case I needed old projects, but I've let all the new trials expire because even with the handful of new features each time I just feel they've lost the focus they had in the past. (sorry guys) I'd actually say the turning-point may have been when a guy in Sony Cust Support tried to tell me I should move from Vegas to ACID and simply didn't understand any of the reasons I gave for not comfortably being able to do so. For him ACID was "just like editing with Vegas" which is simply a long way from the truth. He wasn't unfriendly - he was trying to help but just didn't get what I needed.. that's how I'd describe my feelings about SonyCS. Until they changed Sound Forge v9 so I couldn't use it the way I had been since the last century and took months to add an option to let me use it "normally". This guy's post sums it up for me: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=559991&Replies=4 If REAPER ever gets the 2-track editing functionality of Sound Forge maybe Sony can focus on selling American Idol packs and Cinescore - tools for people that don't make music rather than those that do. |

This might sound obvious, but make sure you have disabled media manager. I get a reasonably fast startup - the major time hog is loading all those plugins. Every now and then, I clear out my plugin folder and get rid of ones I rarely use. It's a problem for Cubase as well. |

Media manager is always disabled. I'd prefer to not install at all. Also, I don't buy the issue of plugins being a factor because Reaper opens almost instantly with the same amount of plugs. That tells me that if lots of plugins slows the app's launch time, then its simply a design flaw/problem in the app and not the amount of plugins one has. Finally, I'd never cite Cubase in any discussion related to efficiency. Peace Message last edited on11/20/2007 4:18:52 PM bydrbam. |

As soon as you start to load a project make a phone call. Or go get a coffee. Or tidy your desk. Or jot down what your goals are for this session. Like magic, by the time you've done one of these tasks your project will be loaded ! |

Try disabling unnecessary features like the splash screen and media manager (absolutely useless). Also, remove any plugins that are not being used for the project. If you oplan to use them in the future, just stick them all in a folder and move them back when you are finished your project. *not to self to do the same thing*. |

>>Also, remove any plugins that are not being used for the project. Why do this? It provides zero benifit. Pug-in scanning would only affect ACID's start up time. It has absolutely nothing to do with project load time. Peter |

I beg to differ that the Media Manager is, "absolutely useless." I have so much media I actually forget what I have, so the MM is quite handy in rediscovering media I might have not found/used otherwise. Could it be streamlined to help ACID launch faster (provided it's enabled)? I'd say that would be a task considering what the Media Manager does. I know that ACID always launches fast like it always has once the MM is loaded (and active via the Media Manager option to keep it active even if ACID is closed). I never have a project load when ACID loads. Just habit, I guess, kind of like how I go to a blank page when I launch my Web browser. Iacobus |
