I have some songs written in the 3/4 tempo and not the 4/4
that all the loops on my CD are. Is there a way to alter that.
Or better yet, do the more complete loops CDs contain beats
actually recorded in 3/4?

I've tried creating a song in Acid in 3/4....it sucked. Acid just
can't handle anything other than 4/4, as I found out when I tried to
use 3/4 loops.
Sure, you can cut the loop down to three counts and all that, but it
just doesn't FEEL like a genuine 3/4 song.

BTW, if you DO succeed in making a 3/4 song (and not something like
12/8, which is basically the same as 4/4) please let me know. I'd
like to hear it!

Okay, I actually called tech support about this one earlier today
because I was having a problem with it in acid pro and I've done it
before in acid ph1 or acid music, whatever you want to call it.
This is the deal with 3/4. I figured it out before the long distance
tech support guy could figure it out. You can make beats, I've never
seen anyone sell them on a CD but then, I usually make my own beats,
I don't buy them. This is how it works, for example (BD stands for
bass drum, HH stands for high hat or ride cymbal):
BD - -
HH ------ If you line up your samples (your program should of come
with some, also you can download a ton of them off the internet for
free) like this, and set the loop to it, you will be able to mix it
down to a track and have it loop as a waltz, or 3/4 time. Note that
in the sequence example I showed above, there are 6 beats, not 3. If
you do a loop with 3 beats, the tempo will be all screwed up on it.
I know this is probably real confusing. Like I said though, I did it
about a year ago. The song is on my website at
www.mp3.com/madscientists. ATP wanted to hear it. If you have any
questions, you could email me from the webpage.

BD: - -
HH: ------

Ok, this'll work, as I already figured out. BUT, what if i wanted to
make the hihat play twice as fast?

That's where the trouble begins...see, Acid can't handle this since
it is a 4/4 based program. I mean, it can of course physically double
the events, but I've experienced that it won't sync properly with a
classical 3/4 loop. The 'in-between' hihats are terribly off the mark.

I've given thought to doubling the song-tempo, but I doubt it'll help.

Then again, why am I whining about this? If I really want to make 3/4
songs I should just use another sequencer, right? Something like
Cubase perhaps...ah, well...

Alright, you got me on a mission. I'm either going to figure out how
to do that or give up. It's one or the other. But either way,
you'll know if I figure it out or not. Here I go. Hope you found
that song alright. As far as how I feel about other sequencers, it
means spending the same money you spent on Acid for another program
that probably has the same problem. Personally, I've seen this issue
addressed a few times in this forum and think that Sonic Foundry
needs to get their butts moving making it have all those funny little
notes that we need to make the beats we want. Because then it really
would be the best thing out there, I think. Haven't really checked
much else out. Haven't had the need to.
Take care Acid. Jess. www.mp3.com/madscientists
