Professional Vegas Editor here. Q: I was considering buying the pro level ACID and I noticed it seems to be last of the tools that has not got the Vista upgrade treatment in a new version. Anyone have any idea when that is anticpated to happen? BigRockies.com Your Home in the Rockies! |

I have Acid Pro 6.0d working flawlessly in Vista Ultimate 32-bit. It has actually been more stable in Vista than I ever saw in XP Pro. But I was also was a late Vista adopter (after all the initial bugs were worked out). I think the common rule is simply having a good clean successful install from the beginning. Adobe just released the Vista upgrade for Audition 3.0 this past week. Ableton Live 7 is coming out soon as well oh and let's not forget the recent Reason 4 update! The next version of Acid would have to be a lot better to really impress me. It seems their last product was to target the regular home user market. As an existing product Acid Pro 6 works quite well and serves it's purpose. However, there is still a huge market demand and expectation for a more powerful product by Sony along with official Vista support. I'm really hoping they will not disappoint. |

I put down my cash for Reason 4 (VISTA), Tascam GVI (my gigastudio 3 orchestral would not run under VISTA) and Ableton 6 (VISTA). Emu even provides VISTA drivers for my lowly 0404 emu card, for 192 k under vista. My acid pro media manager is still NOT running AT ALL under vista. Is this a problem? Well, I have 97 gig of audio samples. Yes, it is a serious problem. It is still not fixed. It also seems media manager is fixed for users of VISTA & Vegas. Now I might be wrong there, I just don't know for sure. Anyone? Unless there is a free fix to Media Manager then my time with Acid Pro will end with 6.0 I will not pay an upgrade just to be able to find my files. Everyone else has finished their upgrades. If the thinking is that this a carrot for selling upgrades then get new marketing people because I am quite unhappy about this. I don't want to play upgrade cash for things that are everyday fixes for otehr companies and I am finished upgrading my machine and software to cope with VISTA. Three months ago I would have paid, now I wont. The lack of action on Media Manager has become a deal breaker for me as a customer. Put up or lose my business. I purchase other SONY products, including Sound Forge 9.0. I am quite happy with acid pro 6.0c but media manager is a real burr under the saddle. I'd rather be a happy customer again. |

If I read you right, you are running Vista, but can't get MM to work? You have downloaded v2.3? MM works just fine for me. |

Thanks. I had two or three exchanges with support desk via email and was definitely told twice the media manager update would not work with Acid pro in Vista and there would be no upgrade till version 7. Over the holidays in frustration with lack of access to my library I just went ahead and downloaded the software I was told would not run, held my breath crossed my fingers and, guess what, it runs without a problem, despite what support told me. I suppose it reflects the problem of organizational scale, where you end up with support people or contract people who don't actually "play" with the software. Anyhow your right the latest update does work in 32 bit Vista. Much happier now. |
