Subject:recording from a Sony DiscMan

I loaded Sony Acid Music Studio version 5.0 into my old computer about 3 years ago (Windows XP). In order to transfer recordings from my Sony MiniDisc player, I had to click on a “Creative Mixer” icon that a computer whiz had put on my desktop, and under “Recording Properties,” select “from Line In.” Recently I got a new computer (Windows Vista). I have again loaded the software, but now I don’t have the Creative Mixer icon on my desktop to select recording from “Line In.”

Does anyone have any idea what I should do to get that line in from the MiniDisc player active?

When the Sony is connected to my computer and I play a track, there is no sound from the computer speakers. This was also the case on my previous computer, and when the "Line In" option was selected from the Creative Mixer, the sound would immediately be heard on my computer speakers and I could successfully record from the Sony DiskMan.

Thanks for ideas or help.

Liam

try:
Right click on speaker icon on taskbar, and select recording devices.
Choose the "line in" option, and select "set default".

See if you then get any joy.

Hi. Thanks for your help. I followed your directions, and there is progress. The view bars in the recording dialog box have green in them now, indicating that the Sony discman is communicating somewhat with Acid. But when I press play on the discman, I cannot hear any sound coming over the computer speakers. And when I record and save a file from the discman, I open it up to play with Windows Media player, but there is no sound. I think I'm close, but I suspect there must be a mute setting somewhere associated with that Line In.

Ok - same icon - check volume mixer - it's easy to accidentally mute something - just check those.

Also, in recording devices, you can click each item, select properties, and you should see a tab for levels in there.. Could hopefully be something simple like that for you.
