Subject:VSTi's won't hold settings

I've got a problem that's been driving me crazy, and any help will be appreciated.

I use Acid Pro 5 and have been working with midi files and VSTi's. The problem is that the VSTi's won't hold their settings. If I assign a midi track to, say, the Korg Polysix VSTi, and set the Polysix on, say, the "Fat Line Bass" preset, it will play the midi track on that preset just fine, but if I stop playback and then resume, it hops to a different preset on the Polysix. If I go to render the track, it will render using different presets than I want.

I'm having this problem with all VSTi's that I'm using.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Riko

Sounds like the MIDI track in ACID is sending a wrong program change to the plugin. Remove the program change or set it to the correct one for the VSTi.

Thanks for the info, Peter. Can you tell me how to remove or set a program change? I haven't worked with midi files very much so I'm sorry if that's a dumb question.

What I'm trying to do is take a 9-channel midi file that I've downloaded and then assign different instruments (channels) of that file to different VSTi's. What I did was make 9 copies of the track in Acid, then went in and solo'd one channel for each of the 9 copies, then am assigning each track to a different VSTi. Is there a simpler way that I should've done this?

Thanks again for the help.

This is very painful to do in ACID 5 - and trival in ACID 6.

What you need to do is use the List Editor for a given ACID track and locate any program changes in the MIDI data. Delete these. Now the softsynth setting has control over the patch and ACID will not tell it to change the patch.

Alternatively you can change the patch (and possibly bank) in the List Editor to the patch you want for your synth. This is the only way you can automate patch changes.

Peter - Thanks for the info. I used the List Editor as you suggested and it seemed to do the trick. Much appreciated.

When you say that doing this is "trivial" in Acid 6, are you saying it would be easier?

Yes, it is easier in ACID 6. You control things like patches in the context of the synth/device they are routed to. If you import a MIDI track it will load - as an option - any program/patch changes and include this as data. You can easily overide/change how ACID 6 sends patch changes and can even load/create a patch map if one does not exist for a given device/synth.
