joel, i am an avid techno/ hip hop fan. here's my rig: i would get a dedicated audio card, such as one by echo, giving you plenty of analog ins/outs as well as midi (w/ the layla). you can then hook up anything from sampler to turn tables to drum machine. next, i use the seer systems reality software synth, where i get most of my analog synth sounds. since it uses the soundblaster soundfont, free samples are readily available across the internet. i then record my stuff in an audio file, after which i port it into acid, loop and mix the stuff. for the drums, i sample random kicks, snares, hi hats, then pop them onto individual tracks in acid, quantize to 16th notes, and take it from there to create loops. the resulting setup is similar to what you can accomplish with fruity loops. i use soundforge to add effects, especially for the vocals, which i add last, along with transitions, for which acid is absolutely sweet. don't know if this helps any, lemme know if u have specific questions alex |
