Subject:MMC/MTC SYNC with Roland VS-840, possible?

I am planning on using my VS-840 to play back loops and generate a click track (that only the band can hear). I would like to use ACID to create those loops, I have been using Version 1.0 for some time now and only recently came up with the idea to generate live backing tracks (save on drum triggers and updated syths for the roland GR-1 we use). I first recorded our songs live to the click track generated by the VS-840's internal metronome. I wanted to then sync with ACID and dump this mix down to ACID by recording it directly in as a mono ACID .wav, and build the loops around the pre-existing music and have everything be in perfect time. Once the loops were built I was going to erase the live track from ACID leaving only the loops then sync using the MTC and record the loops from ACID back to my VS-840 so the time was still matching. Then live we could have great stereo looping and stay in time by listening to the metronome, that theoretically would be in time, through our monitor mix and our drummers earpieces. I hope this is making sense. Basically we want to use the VS-840 instead of ADATs live. The problem is when I try to sync it all up the two don't seem to cooperate. They start playing at the same time and then the time gets off somewhere. I am using the same bpm on each device. Is there a setting I am forgetting? The VS-840 can only generate MTC or MIDI Clock. I would like to use it as the Master because it will not recieve sync/tempo information. It can however lock to and send time information from a Sync Track. I think. I want this to work but it seems that ACID lacks a little in the MIDI sync department for MTC recognition. Any suggestions, patches or maybee a MIDI Wizard that sets it auto matically? The device ID for the VS-840 is 17, I can set up Offsets would that help? I need ideas bad! Thank you Eli |

Eli, Unfortunately, ACID is a very poor slave in any MTC setup. This is a known issue and is being worked on. If you can use ACID as the master, set it to use your audio hardware as the clock source and your VS 840 should sync up well. We've had good results slaving the VS-8xx family to ACID. I hope this helps. Mike ACID Project Manager Eli Purge wrote: >>I am planning on using my VS-840 to play back loops and >>generate a click track (that only the band can hear). Micheal, Please tell me the exact settings I should put each piece of equipment on as far as ID notes etc... I still can't get them to sync. Ii seems Acid plays the first few measures real fast then slows, but neither is on track with the midi clock. I need a closely mapped and detailed solution to my problem if you could. My computer is just a Compaq pentium 166 with 96 megs of RAM, I believe the sound card is an Interwave. Would the Virtual Midi thing help? I can't even get sound forge to sync up with either. I desperately need very detailed help!!! Thank You Chris Loesch Michael Leger wrote: >>Eli, >> >>Unfortunately, ACID is a very poor slave in any MTC setup.
