Subject:problem locking to smpte/mtc

I am using Acid syncing to MTC converted from SMPTE with a
MOTU Midi Time Piece II. The MOTU sees SMPTE relyably
every time I start the master (another computer running
Paris). However, about every other time I start playback,
Acid will refuse to play--sometimes it even moves the
cursor along with the SMPTE and yet plays nothing through
the sound card. Once this happens I have to turn
the "Chase MIDI Time Code" option off and then back on
again to get it to work, and even then it won't always do
the trick. This is frustrating.

Anyone had similar experience/know of a solution. Is
definitely wasting time.

Thanks much.

Pete,

The problem your describing is a known issue in ACID that we're
working to correct. Right now ACID is a terrible slave, it's
behavior is unpredictable at best. I apologize for the inconvenience
this is causing you.

Yep, Acid is a terrible slave. It reads the initial start code, starts
up and then rolls along at its own rate, ignoring the continued MTC.
But it works just fine at being master. I do Acid and Cakewalk Pro
Audio 9 with Cakewalk as slave (MTC/SMPTE 25fps)and it works perfectly
- IF I set the right parameters in both. A lot of experimenting
required!
I created a test song 18 minutes long and the two apps run perfectly
together all the way through. Vice versa and they sound awful after 30
secs or so.
Dunno if you can turn your system back to front and let Acid master.
Hope so. It's worth a try.
Best of luck!
