So, Sonar 7 was released today with loads of new goodies and a total reworking of its MIDI (about time). The thing is that the limited time $99 upgrade offer expires at the end of this month. But I'm betting AcidPro 7 will be released in the first week of October. And since Acid will be getting bus-to-bus routing and a new full mixer console, I'm tempted to forget the Sonar upgrade. Still, those MIDI tools look rather appealing.... And before anyone says 'get both', I'd love to, but have just spent $134 on the upgrade to Vegas 8. Anyone else tempted by Sonar again ? |

>But I'm betting AcidPro 7 will be released in the first week of October. What gives you this indication? The only thing that is for sure is Reason 4. I would bet that Ableton Live 7 would be released first. I haven't heard any rumors in any magazines thus far regarding Sony Acid 7. I can see why the recent release of Sound Forge 8 and now Vegas 8 would indicate Acid would be next on the list, but I'm not sure that's the case. Overall Acid Pro 6 is very stable and a flagship product in itself without any improvements. I would imagine they would incorporate much of the new advanced bus features you see in Vegas. A lot of people consider programs like Ableton Live as a substitution for their DAW, but Acid has a much easier layout. You can never have too many software programs. Each one has it's own high and low points. |

Looking back at how Sony has spread the release of their upgrades and how they can channel their resources for each version of Vegas, Acid and Sound Forge, I strongly believe we should see Acid Pro 7 come out next year, in time for MusikMesse 2008. Cheers Anthony |

So, what you're saying is that the release schedule for ACID is completely random. And yet you still think you can project when ACID 7 will come out? |

It's obviously not completely random, nor am I trying to prove anything. It's entertaining speculation is all. Relax. |

Actually, ACID Pro 6 was "officially" released to the public in early April of 2006. It was first "announced", in January 2006, at Winter NAMM though. It's all speculation, but I would not be surprised to see that same pattern emerge, in 2008. ACID Pro 7 "BIG announcement splash" at Winter NAMM 2008, with the official release sometime in late March or early April. Cheers, Billy Buck |

I agree -- with your 2008 projection. In the mean time ACID is still superb loop based arrangement / mixing application. |

Didn't Sony's acquisition of Sonic Foundry delay the release of all their programs for a substantial amount of time? I think that would explain the 26 month gap between version 4 and 5...dunno fer sure. |

I think you're right. Certainly version 5 was the reason I went to Sonar. The brilliant AcidPro 6 was the reason I came back. |

I am VERY tempted to get Sonar 7. It just seems more complete than Acid and definitely offers more extras. The effects suite is superior IMO. Considering the effects have not been upgraded since...well, i can't recall. Every "upgrade" has been the inclusion of older plugins that should have been included in the 1st place (wave hammer, Acoustic Mirror and now Noise Reduction). The suite of included instruments is also superior. Including ONE very limited VST sample playback synth is kind of lame for a full featured DAW. There are freeware programs that give me most of the functionality of the acid version of kompakt. Sonar offers various ways to play back samples in multiple formats plus throws in various synths and sample players. The midi comparison is no contest. With that said, I love Acid. I can create content quicker with it than any other major software, but it still seems to lag behind in some areas that keep it from being an all-in-one solution. I'm hoping version 7 at least has a step sequencer. |

We really do need Acid 7 soon, but I hope it has track freeze and a few processing improvements to keep projects from bottlenecking just as they start getting interesting. -I know I should try to limit my vst instruments and effects, but where's the fun in that? That's my 2 cents, I love Acid but sometimes think that it doesn't advance at the same rate that vegas does. |

I agree - I can fly around Acid Pro and have used it for years and am desperate for Acid 7 Where is it Sony??? lol I use it for scoring to picture which I can do within minutes due to its simple workflow.. and ok loads of music-to-picture is done in Pro-tools (which I have) but at the moment Acid is so fast and quick! I say "at the moment" because I have PT, and they are about to release the 7.4 update with the time-stretching in the arrange window which looks great! So come on Sony lets "ave yer! I've seen releases from Logic 8, Sonar 7, Ableton Live 7, Protools 7.4 but nothing as yet from Acid? - just hoping that its a corker with loads of new things as well as most of Vegas' features too... Here's hoping.... |

ACID 6 is my main program for recording audio and MIDI. You really think it's still just an arrangement tool? |
