Subject:AVI Video playback support?

I touched upon this in the Sound Forge forum, but will ask
here - Can or Will Acid (any version) incorporate .AVI/
(mov, qt, etc) support so as to allow for locking Acid to
picture and composing that way.

I've tried locking Acid to Sound Forge and Vegas to
trigger/lock the video and Sound Forge isn't really
tracking, just triggering (and it doesn't work well to
begin with) and Vegas had some problems playing my Pinnacle
DC30+ 500+MB AVI file. In fact, it won't play it at all
making Vegas useless. It just loads it and stutters along,
not even spitting the data out to the DC-30 Card.

Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 can do this however so it has to be
trivial. Also, I'm not about to spend $400-$600 on Vegas
just to lock video to Acid.

AND... here's the kick in the ass... I read a spec on Vegas
2.0 before it was released on your website here that it was
supposed to fully support .AVI playback so as to allow for
scoring to picture... It was shortly thereafter removed I
assume as 2.0 came out with no mention of video support :-(

(Really, I did see this... I swear I wasn't on Acid...
err... sorry)

Simple answer. No. ACID does not support AVI or any video media.

I don't ever recall ACID being discussed with video support. Maybe I
missed that meeting.

(You actually typed Vegas 2.0 in your post. If this is what you
really mean, then yes, Vegas does have simple video support and in a
new release will have extensive video support.)

whoops - you're right, I said Vegas but meant ACID... I saw on the
website here ACID 2.0 specs claiming AVI support.

It soon disappeared...

Ok - Vegas doesn't seem to playback pinnacle made (DC30+ card) AVI's
at all... It chokes and coughs...

I hear ya. I too just found out to my great frustration that it does
not support AVI and I too remember reading on the site saying it was
going to support it because that's why I upgraded from 1.0
Plus it's on the box for crissakes ! You see an avi among ACID screen
shots. I think it's safe to say that there were plans to support avi !
When can we expect that to be added then ?

Hello...

Where on any of the Acid box does it say this?

Where on the website did you see that?

Thanks.

I believe that the ACID 2.0 box shows Sound Forge XP with a video
clip. Don't have the box handy.

When Acid 2.0 was first being announced as "coming soon" on this
website (which had a slightly different design), one of the features
it touted was "AVI support". That is why I was so eager to check it
out. I don't go around saving web pages like that so all I can say is
check the archives?

I believe it was on an upcoming features list page...

If not, then perhaps it was just a dream...

We both had the same dream I guess...
Peter Haller is right though. I checked the ACID Pro box and where
it shows video it's actually Sound Forge XP...but you gotta admit it
is somewhat misleading to see SF XP screen shots on an ACID box. So my
reading on the web with seeing video on the box I thought there was
AVI spport. Obviously I was not the only one. But you guys are missing
the point. Instead of arguing whether or not SF made a faulty
announcement on their website, I'm much more interested in hearing if
they will add AVI capabilty and when. We can't seem to get an answer
on that.

Yep, could be misinterpreted. Was not the intent to mislead.

As far as Video and ACID. We hear the requests and the right people
are aware of it. I can't say much more than that right now.

Thanks
Peter
