Did I correctly understand the e-mail I received from Sony Creative Software today that users who previously upgraded to Sony Forge 9 have to pay $100 for the new Sound Forge 9 Seminar Series training DVD and users now upgrading to Forge 9 will only pay a net $50 for Forge 9 and the Seminar Series?

I guess I should have waiting on my Forge 9 purchase.

I have the same question. There is a large difference between free and $100.

I ordered SF 9 on July 26 (3 months ago). Is there at least a reduced price for those of us that previously obtained the program?

I am a relatively new use of SF products and could use the training.

Does anyone know of other training materials (DVD or book) by anyone?

Another 'Sony classic' of alienating loyal customers; this is worse than when they removed functionality between the 8 and 9 upgrade, expect us to pay for the privilege then reluctantly put 'some' of it back.

This type of thing will certainly stop users upgrading immediately when the next version comes out. Surely it should be the other way around, free DVD/incentives for early upgraders.

MY UAD Card works in SF8 but not SF9 -- this alone is very troubling.

I would certainly go bald if I tried to understand SONY SONIC FOUNDRY CREATIVE SOFTWARE or whatever the name is.

Well I have already bitten the bullet and purchased the DVD's, I guess I should have waited.

But beyond training material I am concerned about the fact that my hardware does not work as it should.

At minimum, those of us who already purchased SF9 already should have a deeper discount for the training DVD - especially those of us who have proven to be loyal customers and they certainly know (or should know) who we are. I would pay $50 for the DVD but I think Sony should simply give it to us as a token of our loyalty which sometimes Sony hasn't exactly earned. I'm certainly not going to pay $100.

A further point is that those of us who did upgrade early have been the ones who spotted the bugs which, at least in my case, have been resolved and it's resulted in those who will get the bonus DVD having a more functional piece of software.

I didn't get this e-mail... where exactly is this offer listed on the website? When I go to shop for upgrades, I still see the SF to SF9 upgrade listed at $134.95 or $149.95 depending on downloaded or packaged, and no mention of getting any training DVDs for free.

As someone who upgraded less than a month ago, I feel we should be getting the same deal, if there's one to be had.

I'm certainly not going to pay $100.

Indeed, particularly as the offer itself only claims the Seminar Series DVD is "a $99 value".

I think someone in the marketing department was having a bad brain day when they decided on the price for this "offer".

LOL! Thanks Mark - for bringing a bit of humor to it all. And you're correct: "a bad brain day" had to factor into this - at least I hope so. The alternative scenario is that SMS marketing personnel believe that its ok to scam their customers and somewhere higher up it gets approved. I don't think this is the case but stranger things occur in these wierd and challenging times. ;-)

I guess SCS took the cue from Apple with their I-phone price reduction.
They cashed in, but pissed off a lot of folk.
